This week's episode is the first half of the mid-season finale! The Storm is the episode that officially hooked me on SGA. Atlantis must be evacuated as a giant storm approaches and efforts to save the city make its corridors dangerous. As if that were not enough, the Genii seize an opportunity...

Dear Diary,

Today sucks like Hoover on steroids. There's a massive hurricane coming, McKay and Zelenka think they can get the shield running, the city -- my fucking city -- is in serious danger, and now there's some asshole holding my people hostage, trying to kill me, threatening to kill Weir, and he thinks he can take this city and run it himself.

"Not a negotiation"? No, it's not, you fucker. You'll wish it was.

Despite Weir and Sheppard's efforts, no, this is not a negotiation; it's torture. But notice how McKay still leads with his chin. Gotta give the guy a lot of credit.

Now it's a negotiation, as Sheppard -- loaded for ~~Genii~~ bear -- plays cat and mouse with Kolya on the catwalks of Atlantis.

Rodney McKay: arrogant, petty, smug, bad with people, total smartass -- and absolutely terrified but rolling with it anyway.

I think that's how he defines courage.

Genii in the gateroom! Introducing Acastus Kolya, one of the better villains of SGA because he developed as the series progressed instead of being a one-note bad guy. He was always a bad guy but he had reasons and those changed as his needs and circumstances changed.

As Robert A. Heinlein once wrote: "For every fine cat, a fine rat." I'm sure John Sheppard would have been glad to do without this rat.

One of my favorite exchanges between McKay and Sheppard, as they prepare to disable the grounding stations. I love how McKay so casually jerks Sheppard's chain.

SHEPPARD: Wait, wait, wait a second. Are these things even close to a transporter?

McKAY: Uh, yes, Elizabeth's is.

SHEPPARD: And mine?

McKAY: Uh, it's a brisk walk away.

SHEPPARD: And by 'brisk', you mean ... 'far'.

McKAY: By 'walk', I mean 'run'.
