On the same bent as the which doctor would you choose? I thought it would be fun if we discussed these questions.

1. Which SGA character would you want to have as your best friend? Why?
2. Which character do you wish they had never killed  or written off the show? Why?
3. If you could have any of the characters as your lover, who would you choose and why?
4. Who would you marry? Why? If it's not the same person as #3, why?
5. Which character was the biggest scene stealer?
6. Dress blues or BDUs?
7. Character they should have whumped more often? Why?
8. Scariest villains? Why?

1. Teyla. Hands down. I could see sitting down to discuss the absurdities of culture, sharing music and the arts, swapping stories, and learning how to live in each other's worlds. Teyla is one of the most underused characters on the show and yet Rachel managed to make her a card-carrying member of the expedition and a bona fide personality. I think she'd be fun to hang out with and best of all, she's *nice*.

2. Elizabeth. I know why they did it but it really felt like SGA made a turning point with her death and things seemed to go downhill after that. :-(

3. Eeep. Tough question. Because there are people that you'd sleep with that aren't necessarily the same people that you'd want to have a relationship with. If I was sticking to people that I might want to have a relationship with as well as sex, I'd have to say Lorne. :-)

4.Wouldn't get married.

5. Scene stealer? Any child in any scene.

6. Dress blues, but in part because they *aren't* daily wear.

7. Sheppard is always so fun to whump. So is Rodney, for different reasons. I would have liked to have seen them whump Elizabeth more TBH. I think she was tougher than she looked.

8. I think the Wraith are pretty damn scary as a group, with the wraith in the Defiant One topping the list. I think they embody all my darkest fears about aging in the blink of an eye.

Oooh, I want to redo my #3. LORNE! Totally. *grabby hands*

Re #2: I had a tough choice between Elizabeth and Ford. I did not watch the series as it aired to for me there isn't that tie-in to the changes of the show. Still, I went with Ford because I'd really have loved to seen him redeemed eventually. :(

Are we sure Ford is dead though? I mean, yes, they 'killed off' his character in a sense, but I'd like to see fic where Ford is found and cured. :-)

See, I'm not the only one who thinks Lorne would be great BF material! :-)

You know what's funny about these questions? As you sit there and think about your answers, sometimes you have an epiphany about yourself. *g* Also, I wish I hadn't read Mads answers first, because now I feel like a copycat. Oh, um, mind twin, maybe?

1. Teyla. For one thing, she's probably one of the more emotionally available characters, and I'm thinking, once you got her to loosen up a little, she'd be a lot of fun to hang out with. She has a droll sense of humor, which I like.

2. Elizabeth. (See? I told you.) Mainly because I would have liked to see some character development there, and maybe even a hint of her taking a lover or something. There was so much missed opportunity with her character.

3. See, youd think I'd say Rodney. or John. But then they wouldn't be together(!) and Ronon is just too muscular for my taste. So - I'm going to have to say Radek. This surprises me about myself, but the more I think about it? Yeah. Radek. Mmmm-hmmmm.

4. Also would not marry.

5. I don't think anyone ever really stole the scenery. I tended to focus on John/Rodney in any scene they were in, but I think we were supposed to do that. Todd, maybe? Hmmmm.

6. BDUs. Although I loved John in his dress blues, those BDUs did things (very nice, sometimes inappropriate things) for everyone who ever wore them.

7. John and Rodney got whumped enough for everyone, I think. Chuck. They could have roughed Chuck up a little bit. *g*

8. Oh, the Wraith, for sure. The whole sucking your life out with the feeding maw on the hand? *goosebumps*

What about you?

1. I don't know, honestly... maybe Rodney. For various probably screwed up reasons.
2. Elizabeth made such a good leader...
3. Hypothetically: Sheppard?
4. Lorne seems pretty emotionally stable compared to a lot of characters and I think he'd take good care of me.
5. Harmony, maybe.
6. Both! Nrrrgh.
7. John. Why? Er... 'cause I have problems and he's just so pretty when he's bleeding.
8. I think those uber-tough unknown guys from The Daedalus Variations were really darn scary. Seemed even tougher to kill than the Wraith.

The unknown bad guys seemed just a little too Borg-like for me, otherwise, I agree, seriously worrisome.

AH, I loved the Borg! "Resistance in futile."

I loved them too! They were seriously creepy bad guys and played on another great fear--fear of loss of individual personality (though I liked to imagine that the assimilation of me would cause a serious breakdown in the system and I would be rejected as being incompatible, as in 'Hah! Even the Borg won't have me as a club member!').

But that's why sometimes, the SG franchise feels a bit like Start Trek Light. It seems to me TPTB liked to borrow a bit too much from other sci-fi franchises...

*headdesk* I should never attempt to write so early in the morning.. I of course meant it to be "Resistance IS futile!" LOL to you breaking down a borg hive!

Yes, they do like to borrow. It's one of the reasons I've not found SGU interesting, it's 'been there, done that' with ST Voyager and BG.

Exactly. When they did Vegas in the CSI style, you could tell it was both a departure and an homage of sorts. But to do a whole series like that? *see icon*

Very well put! The humour is one of the things I missed most, and the characters are just either annoying or super dull. I can take a dark and brooding episode now and again, but not an entire show. After a few episodes I realized I couldn't give a shit about what happened to the crew and stopped watching.

Date: 2010-08-12 02:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sgamadison.livejournal.com
I know it is really shallow of me, but I don't find any of the cast of SGU physically appealing. Add to that the lack of humor, the dreariness of the storylines, the fact that none of the characters seem remotely *likable* and you have the bulk of my reasons for not watching it.

I called it Stargate:90210 from the beginning announcement, then Stargate:Voyager as they outlined the premise. I think my favorite descriptor is Battlegate:Cloverfield however.

I'd be interested in a good discussion about why someone *likes* the show, only since I haven't seen it, I'm afraid it would be a fairly one-side convo.

1) I want to say Rodney because I love him. However, in real life, I fear I'd end up pushing him off that balcony sans personal shield. LOL

2) I can't pick one so I'll say both Carson & Elizabeth. TPTB gutted the show when they killed off these two main characters, and I don't think it ever really found it's footing as an ensemble again.

3) I don't think any of them. I love them all from afar (and John & Rodney together), and that's enough. :-)

4) See #3

5) OMG, Rodney, of course! LOL

6) John looked lovely in his dress blues, but the man knows how to rock a black t-shirt.

7) Well, I can never have enough Rodney whumpage.

8) Koyla is the top of my scary villains list. Michael was to OTT, Todd was too charming, the Replicators too boring, and the Wraith too goth. But Koyla was just plain scary!

1. Best Friend: Teyla. She takes care of her friends, and yet expects a lot from them in return; that kind of balance is rare. I think she's also the most emotionally stable of the crew, so.... *laughs*

2. Salvation character: Ford. I would say Carson but they kinda brought him back. I wish Ford had been found eventually, and rescued, and like Ronon used his experiences to help them fight the Wraith. I just liked him a lot.

3. Lover: Hmmm...my first choice is John Sheppard. Because he's hot. But then I think, Rodney would be more of a freak in bed. I dunno. Both? :)

4. Marry: Ronon. I think he would be a ferocious husband, protective and worshipful and yet unwilling to take shit. He knows what is important. Second runner up would totally be Teyla.

5. Scene stealer: Really? This is up for debate? Rodney, of course. (I don't think Hewlett could NOT steal scenes, even if you tied him up and gagged him)

6. BDUs. nom. But with thigh holsters, please!

7. Whumpage: actually, Radek. I think anyone whumping Radek would drive Rodney crazy, because he figures he's the only one allowed to beat up his staff. And now I'm giving myself a plot bunny...

8. Scariest villian: Wraith. Because, there is something deeply terrifying about an intelligent enemy that cannot be reasoned with because you are just food to them. *shudders*

And could I please bribe you to feed that plot bunny? *grins*

1. Radek. I suspect he knows how to acquire necessities without asking too many questions. He'd listen and advise sparingly. He's also rather cuddly.

2.Peter Grodin! Oh Peter, Peter, Peter.

3.I'm too old for any of them. But! If I'm going to take 'em young give me Keras. He's a cutie pie and grateful to be alive. Two things I can work with.

4.Oh dear. That's a toughie. It can't be John or Rodney. I'd feel like I was coming between them.

5.Todd. My first impulse was to say Rodney, but any scene Todd was in had me riveted - wondering what he was going to say next.

6.I love the Dress blues, but, but, they don't have thigh holsters. *whine*

7.They did a fairly good job giving everyone a turn at whump. I'm whump satisfied.

8.The Wraith were damn scary. But the most underrated villain was Cowen. Even Koyla had a personal code of conduct. A nasty one, but at least it made sense to him. Cowen was in it for personal gain and the brains behind the brawn.

Now, see, I don't think they killed off Carson because he was some kind of distraction between the chemistry between John and Rodney (or else, why Keller?) I think they killed him off so they could introduce a hot female doctor--killing the doctor was TPTB's favorite method for "shaking things up" and allowing them to bring in a hot, young actress.

I love your list of scene-stealers though!

Oooh, Koyla as Joker--how apt!

Though, what's LBD?

I thought the same thing and I am not exactly a clotheshorse. My reaction was, "What was wardrobe thinking??" :-)

What bugged me more is once she was wearing the LBD (great acronym, thanks!) she seemed to forget she was a doctor. Did she stay and tend to the Flash Frozen Man while Rodney tried to stop the process? Did she tell Rodney (once he saved her from hypothermia with the Kiss of Life--don't get me started on that...)to get her out of the freaking wet clothes and get her warmed up somehow?

I have to admit, the first time I watched the ep, I missed the fact that she was still wearing the wet dress on the plane ride home. Okay, if she is coherent enough to walk on a plane, then she should be sharp enough to say, 'hey, dry clothes, buddy!'

And when she and Rodney had the conversation on the plane home about his personality traits, I was certain Rodney was going to tell her that this is who he was and she'd just have to take it or leave it. I was *expecting* it. When he didn't...

It doesn't matter if you were for or against McKeller--that is *not* the way to start off a healthy relationship!

1. Teyla. She's very zen and we could meditate together.
2. Elizabeth. If Torri had been treated better by TPTB, Elizabeth would have made an AWESOME bad guy. *pouts at missed opportunity*
3. John. I like my men lanky and with a full head of hair and he's definitely got those covered. *g*
4. John again. He's quiet. I'm quiet. He reads a lot. I read a lot. He doesn't like to talk about his emotions, neither do I. It would make for a fairly peaceful marriage, I think.
5. Keller. It was painful watching that poor actress act out those writers' middle-aged fanboy fantasies.
6. BDU'S. They look ever so much more comfortable.
7. John. He's disturbingly pretty when he bleeds. No, really. It kind of freaks me out how pretty blood dripping off his lips was in the Traveler's episode. I'm not even a whumper!
8. Kolya. Robert Davi's portrayal of this character was nearly always incredibly intense. *shivers*

1. Teyla, if we're talking regular cast members. To be able to learn about a whole new galaxy from her would have been wonderful :)I wish they'd explored her more on the show. If we could chose from everyone that's been on screen, I'd chose Jeannie Miller, I really liked her. Can I have two BFFs?

2. Carson, Carson, Carson!! I just loved him. I know they brought him back, but he never should have been killed off to make room for Keller. Carson and Rodney were so great together, and their friendship should have been explored further.

3. I honestly can't decide...LOL Can I have them all at once? Sheppard's seriously hot, and I love his hands. And eyes. And drawl. Mouth made for kissing...Ok, I'll stop now. But Rodney's arms and ass...oh, my, that plump, juicy bottom...*swoon* To have that genius mind focus on sex...I've always imagined him to be attentive, intense and inventive. And did I mention his ass??!!

4. I keep rereading a story by seekergeek, called "And All We Have" where Ronon, Teyla, Rodney and John enter a group marriage, form a menat. I want to join them!

5. Rodney. DH's expressive face is a joy to watch. Rodney's ass...LOL

6. BDUs. Sheppard dressed in black does weird things to my insides...LOL BUT, with the thigh holster :)

7. There can never be enough Sheppard/Rodney whump, but I would have loved to se more of Carson taking care of Lorne :)

8. Koyla. I have to agree about the unknown villains in The Daedalus Variations were seriously scary. The Replicators bored me, and I grew tired of the Michael story lines. The Wraith were super scary! And I loved those long, black leather coats :)

1. Teyla - she is strong and would stand by you, plus when the person in no 3&4 drives me insane I would know that I could always go to her for a shoulder to cry on!

2. I was going to say Beckett, but I suppose they sort of brought him back, so I am going with Elizabeth. The Dynamic between her and Sheppard was great and she was a strong leading female character.

3. No question - Sheppard! Why? He's brave, strong, intelligent, funny and protective yet there is something incredibly vulnerable about him too!

4. See No 3 (what can I say - I'm a monogamist!)

5. Generally my eyes were on Sheppard if he was anywhere in the scene (was anyone else in it ;) ), but in the whole show in general, I would say some of the female guest stars....Harmony, Larrin and the dark gun-loving one from Whispers who I can never remember the name of!

6. Dress is stunning, but the BDU's are quicker to remove ;)

7. Well, Sheppard got whumped A LOT (mind, you that is not a complaint and I can easily watch more that!), but putting Sheppard aside, probably Ronon, he always came across as the big almost indestructable one. Broken Ties showed he was great at whump too, so I would go with him.

8. Kolya because he was ruthless and very sneaky too and could think outside the box. Oh, and also those evil Asgard - they were hugely powerful and didn't give a hoot about anyone else but themselves - very scary combination.

I'm gonna post this BEFORE I read the other answers. (Hey, we could have a poll!) For once.

1. Which SGA character would you want to have as your best friend? Why?
Teyla or Carson. Teyla because she would be a great friend and could teach me to fight, and Carson because, well, I think I would have really liked him. It would have been great to have him as a friend and collegue, I'd be happy to work under him.

2. Which character do you wish they had never killed or written off the show? Why?
Carson. Liked him. They had the good manners to bring back his clone, though.

3. If you could have any of the characters as your lover, who would you choose and why?
Ten years ago I would have screamed Sheppard since he's hot and interesting, but i really think it would be more fun to drag McKay to bed. I tend to want a relationship with the people I fuck, but if i knew I was going for a ONS definitely sheppard, he would be totally cool with it afterwards.

4. Who would you marry? Why? If it's not the same person as #3, why?
McKay. He's smart and funny and always really nice to the people he fall in love with in canon (if a bit blustery). I would have enjoyed watching him bitch to people and I like intelligence, it's a major turn on. Also, I'm not a masochist so not Sheppard, he seems to have certain issues - like a big self sacrificing thing issue, I would SO not want to see my husband fly away on a bomb for the greater good.

5. Which character was the biggest scene stealer?
Zelenka and Lorne. Why, oh why, did they not make anything out of Lorne?

6. Dress blues or BDUs?
BDU:s. Coooooool. :-)

7. Character they should have whumped more often? Why?
I'd spontanously say Sheppard. Because I like it when his friends show up and fix him. Also, they should have shown him more as the badass he was in the Storm.

8. Scariest villains? Why?
Kolya. Smart and evil and that psychopath vibes - he's a good character played by a good actor.

Yeah, that was a double entendre, wasn't it? (Seriously - I would not go to bed with Carson. I'd totally want him as a friend. A cuddly, understanding, supporting friend with weird habits with sheep :-D)
