WHICH SGA CHARACTER WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

On the same bent as the which doctor would you choose? I thought it would be fun if we discussed these questions. 

1. Which SGA character would you want to have as your best friend? Why?
2. Which character do you wish they had never killed  or written off the show? Why?
3. If you could have any of the characters as your lover, who would you choose and why?
4. Who would you marry? Why? If it's not the same person as #3, why?
5. Which character was the biggest scene stealer?
6. Dress blues or BDUs?
7. Character they should have whumped more often? Why?
8. Scariest villains? Why?

Oooh...I loved the Borg. Frightened the shit out of me...but lead to my favourite menancing line to my children..."You too, will be assimilated." Somehow so much more scary to the Western ideal of 'the individual'. But when Koyal cut off John's hand (I know it was a VR)...I screamed! I was thinking "Does Carson know how to make a hand?" I half expected Koyla to say, "John, I'm your father..."

I loved them too! They were seriously creepy bad guys and played on another great fear--fear of loss of individual personality (though I liked to imagine that the assimilation of me would cause a serious breakdown in the system and I would be rejected as being incompatible, as in 'Hah! Even the Borg won't have me as a club member!').

But that's why sometimes, the SG franchise feels a bit like Start Trek Light. It seems to me TPTB liked to borrow a bit too much from other sci-fi franchises...

Yes, they do like to borrow. It's one of the reasons I've not found SGU interesting, it's 'been there,done that' with ST Voyager and BG.

Exactly. When they did Vegas in the CSI style, you could tell it was both a departure and an homage of sorts. But to do a whole series like that? *see icon*

We call SGU, Battlegate at my house. I'm not sure it's very original but it was my 12 year old who started calling it that. I hate it. I won't eve watch when RDA or MS are on. And now I hear that DH is going to be on? WTF?

There are of course quite a few tried and true sci-fi tropes. Lost in a strange world being one of the most common and strangely, usually my favourite. BUt to me why I only watched 2 eps of SGU was becuase it lacked the humour of the rest of the ranchise. The snarky irony was what elevated standard sci-fi tropes to "genius". There is nothing special about the show. If I want dark and brooding I will watch BSG. It is at least compelling. I am not sure how others feel but I ccan't get into SGU and I hate Rush. He's no McKay and he isn't even eye candy.

Very well put! The humour is one of the things I missed most, and the characters are just either annoying or super dull. I can take a dark and brooding episode now and again, but not an entire show. After a few episodes I realized I couldn't give a shit about what happened to the crew and stopped watching.

I know it is really shallow of me, but I don't find any of the cast of SGU physically appealing. Add to that the lack of humor, the dreariness of the storylines, the fact that none of the characters seem remotely *likable* and you have the bulk of my reasons for not watching it.

I called it Stargate:90210 from the beginning announcement, then Stargate:Voyager as they outlined the premise. I think my favorite descriptor is Battlegate:Cloverfield however.

I'd be interested in a good discussion about why someone *likes* the show, only since I haven't seen it, I'm afraid it would be a fairly one-side convo.
