Okay, I'm not supposed to be here. (Don't ask.) But I was thinking (hush!) and one of the characters I would liked to have seen more often was Lorne. Yes, he got off to a rough start with McKay -- I think that's understandable given that Rodney takes some getting used to -- but he became a very integral part of Atlantis very quickly. He's smart, professional, sweet, and deadly; quite a combination!
I think the writer who has the best version of Canon Lorne is
miss_porcupine. Her stories are gen, focus on the military side of the expedition for the most part, and Lorne in particular. His views on Sheppard, the command staff, the absurdities of military life, and paperwork are fun to read. If you'd like to read more, you can find
miss_porcupine's stories here. I recommend The Jenny Code but must warn you that it's dark in some ways, and includes graphic violence.
So, what do you like or dislike about Evan Lorne? Who was he off-duty? On Earth? Personally, I think he smuggled in tubes of paint with the C4 and canvases in boxes marked as "targets." :)
What secondary character do you wish had had more screen time? More backstory? Feel free to open up a separate post for each character, and speculate on who that person was when the cameras weren't rolling. Zelenka? Chuck Campbell? Marie Cho? Amelia Banks? Who am I missing?
Ooops! Gotta go!

Date: 2010-08-12 04:45 pm (UTC)I love Lorne! He's bright, laid-back in an entirely different manner compared to John's laid-back, and a nice compliment to him in the command chain. He's very dryly snarky and he takes his job seriously.
My personal fanon about him is that he was raised in a hippy artist's commune by his mother after his father divorced her to go 'find himself'. She's not pleased that he went into the military, but he convinced her that he truly does like his job, so she accepts it. He's also fairly crafty and, if need be, can knit his own socks. A lot of his mother's friends are gay, and he thinks the military's obsession with its soldiers love lives is simply ridiculous.
I want more Chuck! Who is this Canadian dude who runs gate operations? He could be awesome!
