I absolutely loved this scene in Sunday! Also to everyone who replied in the previous post I made, I added you all as friends. I hope you don't mind!

And now, a bit of getting to know one another on an SGA level. Tell me your:

Favorite Character:
Favorite Pairing:
Favorite Episode/Story Arc:
Least Favorite Character:
Least Favorite Pairing:
Least Favorite Episode/Story Arc:

I'll go first!

Favorite Character: It's a toss up between John Sheppard and Rodney McKay. I generally don't think of them as separate characters, because they've always just been McShep to me, but for the sake of this little questionnaire, I'll say John Sheppard. And that was chosen by a rousing game of Eenie Meenie Miney Mo.
Favorite Pairing: McShep, hands down, with Teyla/Ronon as a close second.
Favorite Episode/Story Arc: Doppelganger, for the simple reason that dark!John is incredibly hot.
Least Favorite Character: Kanaan, just because he was a big part of the end of Season 4 story arc that I hated.
Least Favorite Pairing: It's a tie between Teyla/Kanaan and McKeller.
Least  Favorite Episode/Story Arc: The Teyla-goes-missing arc at the end of S4. I understand they needed something for her character because the actress was pregnant, but it was horrible. They should have just sent her to mainland for a 9 month long party with the Athosians or something.

First love the pics…hot, hot John Sheppard….

Favorite Character: John Sheppard
Favorite Pairing: Gen only...not a shipper
Favorite Episode/Story Arc: So many...Love Rising, the Return, Coup d'état, Critical Mass, Doppelganger, Common Ground, Sateda, The Shrine, Vegas...baby.
Least Favorite Character: OMG...I am going to be so ostracized from the community...I know it...I have not liked Teyla since Letters from Pegasus. OK…I said it. This little exchange did not sit well with me:

SHEPPARD: I said that I'd wait for your friend if there was time. Now there's time. What else do you want from me?

TEYLA: Too much, I fear.

Sheppard had already risked his life for her people and she expected more. Nah…not happy with that; hated the pregnancy arc, always the kiss of death for a TV show, and, besides, she wasn't truthful with Sheppard. She did not tell him about her pregnancy…they were really close weren't they? So close, she couldn't confide in him. Yet she was always portrayed as Miss Perfect. So there's my little secret. That said, when I write her character, I stick to canon and keep her as Miss Perfect just like she was portrayed. Good thing I'm not a fan of AU.....

To [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison's comment, I always thought that John was shocked and reacted the way he did because she didn't confide in him. Perhaps it was only that she had placed herself and her baby in harm's way.

Least Favorite Pairing: McKay and Keller...just because it didn't feel right, no spark there.
Least Favorite Episode/Story Arc: Sunday, Sunday, Sunday (Both loved and hated). Hated, hated the Michael/Teyla baby arc...

I do like that we can discuss these things, I think it's good that we don't pretend when we don't like something. I love action/adventure gen stories. I am certainly not opposed to romance, and I have read some well-written het and slash, but just not my thing.

OK...let me have it...it could have been worse, I could have said I didn't like Elizabeth. But I did....

It's funny how one episode can really turn it. I had no problem with Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica, but there was this one scene in the second season - and I could not get back from that.

For me, the moment that I realized how much I liked Teyla was the mess hall scene at the end of McKay & Mrs. Miller - when the fellas were razzing her about crushing on a Marine - her reaction was so funny and charming. (Does this come off like I'm trying to sell her? I swear I am not, it just made me think of it.)

I hated Sunday, too. It was really disappointing given how awesome a slice-of-life-in-Atlantis episode could have been.

I think I know the scene in BSG you are talking about...I had liked Roslin but started to dislike her around that time.

I remember the Teyla scene you are talking about, and it was cute. I just didn't like the way she was written, as if she was some warrior princess who always had the right comment, or the right emotion. She was simply too perfect...And you are so right...it's funny what a character does or says can make us love them or hate them. Sort of like RL!!!

Ps...not a shipper but I LOVE your icon...very clever.

Was it the scene where she promised not to put Sharon out the airlock then immediately ordered her to be put out the airlock? I can't stomach that scene. It makes me nauseous (I know that's silly).

I do know what you mean about Teyla being too perfect. I think that's a difficult part of her character. Especially because it can come off as condescending or cartoonish (like Earth Mother, "Indian Princess").

Thanks so much! :)

You bring up some interesting points about Teyla--I do find her difficult to write sometimes, because of how she was portrayed in the show.

I think the pregnancy scene was *meant* to convey the cultural differences between the Athosians and the expedition--and yet it failed to take into consideration, as you said, that being pregnant was something Teyla would have likely shared with her friends and team mates.

I can't help but wonder if the writers/producers were a little afraid of making Teyla more human. Lord knows I've seen a lot of backlash over character portrayals before--I remember reading someone's furious post where they wrote that Teyla would *never* have killed Michael, that it went against all her principles, and my reaction at the time was WTF? :-)

On the other hand, I remember how she lost her cool with Bates at the end of season one. I like to think that Teyla grew up exhibiting a strong temper and that she's worked for years to control it. :-)

You know, I don't have a problem with Teyla killing Michael. But I've always thought that the Teyla-pregnancy arc was really out of character for Michael. I'm not big on wraith, in general, but...to be honest, he kind of seemed in love with Teyla - he had a perfect chance to kill her when they parted ways initially, but he didn't, so why would he suddenly see Teyla as disposable because she's got a valuable bun in the oven? Of course, I'm never really a fan of "valuable bun in the oven" storylines (they seem to crop up in sci fi whenever an actress gets pregnant).

By the time Michael died, he'd become a rabid dog that *needed* to be put down.

I'm not so sure about his actions being out of character though--I think his experiences at the hands of the expedition made him insane. Just once, I would have liked a single line of dialog acknowledging that...

Seems to me, a lot could have been alluded to if the writers had added just a line here or there.

Hmmm. I know what you mean about the sci-fi theme in pregnant actresses. I thought SG-1 did a very good job of hiding the fact that Amanda Tapping was pregnant at the time, though! :-)

Yeah, but I've just never bought it. I don't think I ever will. I think he just got the plot device baton handed to him and suddenly became a supervillain.

They hid Gillian Anderson's first pregnancy on X-Files but unfortunately the second one was turned into a miracle baby plot. :|

*snort*

I missed that one, apparently. I must have stopped watching by then. X-files was one of those shows that fascinated and repulsed me at the same time. :-)

I have a low tolerance for scary things. Zombies scare the piss out of me, for example! :-)

I find it fascinating that Letters from Pegasus made you dislike Teyla, because the John and Teyla subplot in that episode is one of the few times where I really intensely dislike John.
