Which doctor inspired more confidence, Carson or Keller? (names chosen in this format because it had a nice ring to it)

Who made the better CMO?

Which is more likely to say, "Yes, I'll go back to Pegasus?"

Which is more likely to turn a blind eye to the stealing of Atlantis if TPTB won't send the city back?  Which is more likely to actively aid, even if they didn't intend on going back themselves?  Would either one rat on the rest of the expedition planning such a risky move?

If you could send *any* medical doctor, either in this fandom or another, who would you choose?

(I stopped watching House when I realized I was trying to beat him to the answer each week and that seemed too much like work to be any fun :-)

His name on the show is Chase. He's lovely to look at. There was an episode where a girl was fat and her mother basically said, "She doesn't overeat" and he was very bigotted toward the kid and the mother because the mother was tall and chubby. I am tall and chuby, so I took offense at his dismissing the child's problem as "bad parenting". It's like the time my son gained 30 pound in 6 weeks and I told his neurologist that the medication was causing it and he actually said, "Well--look at his mother!" Fuck I hate that kind of shit. Irony? This doc was AT LEAST 350 pounds on a 5ft 5 in. frame. So I asked him, "Oh I see, so tell me..is your son morbidly obeses as well?" I had just lost 100 pounds (while we were seeing this guy every 3 weeks with our son) so I was really hurt by the comment. Anyway, on the show, as in my son's case, Chase was proven to be an asshole. The kid had Cushings. The last part of the episode had her coming in for a follow up...thin, and he felt like a smuck. Actually, fat bashing is part of American culture. Someday, they will figure out why I am fat and eat less than any of my thin friends. There will be a "cure". But until then, fat people are treated like shit. Actually, I am not stupid enough to not realize the ocnnection between North American diet and obesity but some people are more prone by DNA to get fat. Someone needs to figure out why. Just sayin...

I know what you mean about the irony of taking 'lose weight' advice from a doctor that is overweight himself. And how people with weight issues still seem to be fair game for commentary. My mother is *horrible* about this sort of thing and it is no accident that eating disorders run rampant in my family.

So, do you think the episode, highlighting Chase's behavior, was a good thing or a bad thing in the end? Do you think it raised awareness of the issue (fat bashing/doctors assuming that there was no medical reason for the boy's weight gain)?

You know, it was a bit of both. Fat bashing and also the stupidity of doctor's judging by appearance (hell, ahyone). I've been taking prednisone for 18 years and I've gained a lot of weight. One doctor refused to discuss my bad knees because all I needed to do was "lighten the load". I asked him if he knew I was on massive doses of steroids and had he even bothered to do a gd history before juding me? And then I walked (hobbled) out. My doctor was horrified and I'm pretty sure "discussed" things with him. He refused to refer any more of his patients to the guy. So yeah, doctors being stupid and not seeing weight as a symptom not a cause was the ultimate message. And I have forgiven Chase since he killed the Hitleresque dictator.

I think issues like that need to be brought up in stories, even if they aren't handled well. At the very least, they make you think about subjects that you might otherwise not consider. I vaguely remember the dictator story--didn't his girlfriend break up with him over that?

She had almost done it earlier in the episode. And then he did it. They were married. I gather there was a RL engagement between the two of them that had recently been ended as well. They played the emoitions out well. But House always presses the envelope. The dictator one kind of raised the question that is often raised, "If you knew the damage Hitler was going to cause, would you have pre-emptively killed him?" It has been done many times. THe Dead Zone. Hell, even a Star Trek episode where poor Kirk has to let Joan Collins get killed...for WW2 to turn out "right".

I think the reason their marriage broke up was because Chase wasn't "sorry".

That was probably one of the few eps of House that I've seen. The BF has a low tolerance for medical dramas and I found myself stressing to find the correct solution before House. :-)

Still like the show, though!
