Date: 2010-08-16 01:11 pm (UTC)Everyone says it's an homage to CSI - I don't watch CSI, so that didn't occur to me. I just loved how 'different' and edgy and tightly scripted it was. I loved that the episode took the characters in different directions and let them stretch their acting wings a little. I loved how damaged Shep was, and how confident Rodney was. I love how they're both still heroes at the core.
I love how they have this instant jolt of recognition/connection when they meet.
The part where Rodney throws the Spearmint gum down on the table? Still gives me goosebumps.
I'll post this at McShep_Monday, too, but this is one of my favorite Vegas stories, because it holds true to the episode. The writing is spare and beautiful, and the characters remain in character - plus, it's hot as hell. *g*

THIS! The recognition angle can be played so many different ways... my brain hurts just thinking about it (but it's a good hurt). Really, just a resounding YES! to everything you've said here.

Date: 2010-08-16 02:16 pm (UTC)The character he created, so Sheppard but so different, suits him so well. Or perhaps suits our image of him so well. An image that JF is holding up in Ireland with his comments about beer and Irish whiskey. The rumpled, scruffy, broken, battered, cynical John Sheppard in Vegas is just like the Atlantis version. That John Sheppard had something the Vegas version didn't...hope and his friends.
I loved the script, loved the acting, loved the little nuances, the homage to CSI...great, great episode.
Thank you for the fantastic pic...can never get enough pictures of these hunks!
Damn it...I miss these people!

This is probably the best assessment of Vegas!John I've seen! Spot on. I could peruse Vegas screencaps all day... so much to read into them.
I miss them, too!

Date: 2010-08-17 08:49 pm (UTC)And I just noticed... what IS Dr. McKay looking at in this cap do you think? Probably the way Detective Sheppard has his shirt unbuttoned... hmmmm.
(also, icon love - that's gorgeous)

Date: 2010-08-17 09:05 pm (UTC)Never a subtle man, Dr McKay at least felt he should make the effort to keep his eyes above Sheppard's belt bucket.
A more difficult endeavor than anticipated. Mental images of what his counterparts and the other John Sheppards were doing together - probably right the fuck now - kept slipping in past his mental guard.
The only defense Rodney had was to frown and try to stay on subject. As a last resort, he gave John his blessing to take the money and run. Preferably quickly before he sank to his knees and buried his face in this Sheppard's groin.
God, it was going to be a long day.

Oh dear. I porned. And there was swearing. Oopsie. I really need to learn to behave myself.
