Icon love and fanmix idolatry...

So I was chatting on the last couple of posts with omg_wtf_yeah and a couple of topics came up--namely, the power of great icons and a mutual love for fandom mixes.

I am admittedly an icon whore.  I love them. I lust after great ones, and I agonize over dropping some to make room for others.

As for fandom playlists, I seldom listen to anything else when driving on my long commutes.  I love how a playlist can be created to reflect a set of characters, or serve as a compliment to a story.  My favorite ones fit the characters or the story so well, they might have been selected by a music director for a film score.  So I invite you here to share your favorites--both icons and fanmixes.  What are your favorite icons?  Where do you go to find new ones?  Do you make your own?  What draws you to an icon that makes you *have* to have it?

What are your favorite playlists?  Have you ever been introduced to new artists through a playlist or a favorite fan vid?  Do you make your own?  Have you ever passed on one because you couldn't get into the music?  (That happened to me with a Castle fanmix--I thought it would be *awesome* and instead the creator's choices grated and didn't seem to fit anything other than personal tastes).

The best place for me to showcase my love of icons is to suggest you check out my user page.  I have scads more in files that I've sadly pulled from use to make room for the next shiny that catches my eye.  One of my favorite things to do is to try and select an icon that 'matches' the one made by someone that I am responding to in comments.  It doesn't always work, but it is fun to try!
