SGA New Year's Marathon--Top Five

Over the past few days, I've discovered just how many of my f-list and twitter list have holiday movie or television watching traditions for Christmas.

In my family, we used to take in a movie on Christmas Day, though we've gotten away from that now.  So many of my friends hold LOTR marathons, which makes perfect, lovely sense to me.  In years past, I made it a point of watching some form of A Christmas Carol--the Muppet version being my favorite. For some of my friends, it's the first Harry Potter, or the first POTC.

I want to start my own tradition this New Year's day of a SGA marathon.  With that in mind, I'm asking for everyone's top five episodes they would watch.  Ideally, I'd like to pick one ep from each year, but what to choose, what to chose?

My list would *probably* run something like this (if I went by one per season):

1. The Defiant One
2. Duet..,or Grace Under Pressure. Or Runner.
3. Common Ground.  But then there is also Phantoms, and Echoes, and the understated The Ark in season three...
4. Doppleganger
5. Vegas

So let's see your lists--your top five overall, or your top pick for each season. I'm not fussy.  Remind me again why should watch my list or something *not* on my list.

Oh, what a lovely post & comments! I still feel like a SGA n00b because I haven't seen many episodes — maybe half, all told, usually caught as reruns over the last 4 years. I just saw The Shrine (what a 3-hanky weeper!) for the first time last month, & about half of The Rising. (Fell asleep during Rising, dammit! — it was on at 2-3 a.m.) I love knowing what eps to keep an eye out for....

Do you mind if I point folks here, in future, when I see them asking for 'the best SGA episodes'? I don't know the etiquette of sending strangers to other people's journal....

Of the ones you've seen so far, what are the standouts? :-)

It's hard for me to say which I 'like best' since I saw most of the eps out of order, so I never saw the characters develop & story arcs as they intended. But, the eps I remember best (no small feat, as I have a mind like a steel sieve) are:

The Shrine: partly because I saw it recently; partly because it was (I believe) a vehicle for nominating DH as Best Actor in award competitions & I respect DH a lot; partly because it really is (as that_which said) "Flowers for Rodney" &, like Algernon, made me sob pitifully. I was irritated by the way the Lanteans treated Ronon & Teyla but what else is new.... :-þ

Vegas: canon AU awesomeness! Down&Out!John, SharpDressed!Rodney, snarky!Zelenka, Gambler!Wraith, Johnny Cash soundtrack — how much fanfic can you fit in one ep?!? Boy, I wanted more of this....

Letters from Pegasus: I wish I could re-watch this, as I loved the glimpses it gave of characters' thoughts & motivations but :: pokes muddled memory :: the scenes weren't in timeline order, maybe? Or something; I remember being confused for most of the ep.... (Or perhaps I simply hadn't seen previous eps it referred to.)

Runner(??): Not sure of the name. The one where the Lanteans first encounter Ronon & he kicks their asses & shows how über-tough he is. Because it's about time the Lanteans realized they aren't all that & a bag of chips in the Pegasus Galaxy.

As I said: haven't seen a lot of the ones mentioned above....
