I love this show so much, that I am considering buying the complete series on the newly released Blu Ray set.  So far, I've been watching the show through Netflix streaming.  While I get to see all the amazing episodes, I don't get any of the extras.  I guess what I'm hoping to find out, is if the extras are worth it.  I've found that sometimes the extras are great, and sometimes they're bogus.  What are the extras?  Are they fun to watch/good quality?  I enjoy commentaries and bloopers the most; are they included?

Btw, I think the extras are the same, no matter the format. So, even if you have regular DVDs, I'd love to know what you think of the extras.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I have to admit I enjoy the commentaries a lot more than I thought I would. :)

The commentaries for the first few seasons were really interesting and featured some of the actors. For Ss 4 & 5 - if memory serves - it's mostly the producers and writers and directors. Anything with Martin Wood is always entertaining, but the others are sort of dry. Still, you get a little insight into the how and what they were thinking side of things... it's just more fun with the actors. And S5 has the outtakes or gag reel and a feature on John Sheppard that I think are worth having all on their own.

You're more than welcome! I find I don't have to "decide" as much as I have to wait on my budget. ;) I bought the regular DVDs of S1-4 but got in a snit about giving TPTB any more money during S5. I think I've gotten over that now because I can't wait to watch my favorite seasons in Blu-ray!

And the icon was done by the very talented [livejournal.com profile] mischief5. She does great City icons. (well, all her icons are great)

I have been thinking of buying the DVDs too. But I am confused between buying the individual season DVDs or the entire boxset. Will the extras be different?

Thanks for your comment...

I had bought 'Friends' box set from a shop, but later I realized there was just 1 DVD for extras in the entire set. I had seen more extras in individual DVD sets. Then I had doubts if mine was fake (inspite of buying from a good shop) because of the missing extras.

But I will probably buy the boxset anyway...its cheaper

As neevebrody said, for the first couple of seasons the extras include several audio commentaries with the actors, which is priceless. I also agree that Martin Wood is worth listening to when he does commentary. You can tell that he has admiration for the actors and understands their importance. It is incredible to me how some of the other directors can spend 41 minutes doing commentary for an episode and they almost never mention what the actors are doing.

All of the seasons have little features on various themes or parts of an episode. A couple of them are truly useless, but others are great. It is always fun to see the behind-the-scenes stuff, just to see what they were thinking when they wrote/produced the episodes.
