Teyla, Sheppard, Weir, Ford and McKay arrive on a planet to find the stargate covered in fog. Rodney finds out the fog is generating a massive amount of energy, allowing travel back to Earth. The team decides to send a message to Earth. Someone responds and mentions there have been some changes on Earth. He tells the Asgard, an alien ally, have equipped the ship Prometheus with engines capable of reaching other galaxies. A while later all four seem to have traveled to Earth. Sheppard is showing Teyla around, Weir visits her partner Simon, Ford is at his parents, Rodney decides to go home for a while. Then an explosion on the Prometheus prevents them from returning and the team finds out some things that are unchangeable have been changed.[Poll #1765411]

You thought it was a sunrise. I thought it was a sunset because there was far more gold in the sky; the sunrises usually have a whiter beam of light. But, it's funny to see how in the early days TPTB would include that establishing shot often IMO.

I never thought about the improbability of AR1 plus Weir being off Atlantis at the same time. But, as each one was being manipulated individually at the beginning (with the exception of Teyla with John), they wouldn't have a clue what was happening (until Aiden showed up in John's reality and Elizabeth and Rodney in each other's). Otherwise, Atlantis would have been left in the hands of a Sergeant (Bates?). And now I'll need to re-re-REwatch the episode to see more of these little hints.

I should have clued in about John's reception. After all, he did kill Sumner and nobody on earth would have known about that unless he 'fessed up.

To be fair, in none of the fake realities were they *all* on Earth. In one Elizabeth and Rodney went, in another it was John and Teyla. In Ford's vision we see Rodney, but no one else.

What's strange to me is that Both Elizabeth and Rodney imagined returning with the other one. Which means they both feel comfortable leaving John in charge of Atlantis, at least on a temporary basis.

::giggles::

Aw, the team is pestering Rodney and his standard reply: "Not yet."

Oooh, spooky music as the gate is dialed.

"Joules or Hertz?" "Lots. Lots and lots."

Huh. Time for opening credits already? The time seemed to go by really quickly.

Okay, meeting time. I don't think I've ever heard Rodney Speak..So..Slowly. Well, slowly for him.

Hai, slouchy John. And then we get that gorgeous sunset.

::more giggles::

"There may be some disassembly required." Oh, boy!

Snorfle! "840 years." Oh, the look on John's face is priceless as he reassures Rodney that they would come rescue him.

Hmmm. Back on the moon, the music is full of gurgles.

And then John's casually charming explanation to Liz about why he brought War and Peace with him. And John's full of all sorts of facial expressions.

Now that's more like it (Rodney's rapid fire delivery when he's chatting with Aiden). Oooo. "Big Macs for all!"

Oh, John. You're tempting Teyla with popcorn to visit earth!

Mmmmm. Gloriously soaring music as the gate engages on the mist moon.

Okay, a really loooooooong whoosh.

And they're back on earth. Oh, cute trick, using SG-1 theme music highlighting Hammond's presence.

Thank you, Elizabeth for acknowledging the accident of waking up the Wraith and a certain responsibility to the other humans in the Pegasus galaxy.

John's facial reaction to Hammond's offer: Aw, shucks, dad. I can take the car ... anywhere???"

Okay, the reunion between Elizabeth and Simon (whom I never really warmed up to).

Now, is this the real first hint that maybe we're not in Kansas any more ... when Rodney comes home and finds there are NO new messages for him. Oh, hey, stale chips stuck in the sofa cushion. Yum!

Oh, no. The horror. John waiting for "hours and hours" while Teyla goes shopping. Whee! And now John's spidey sense is tingling. Also, what's with his dorky outfit?

So, what was wrong with the way Simon kissed Elizabeth?

Hee! Rodney and rapid-fire dialogue. I've seen a number of interviews where David complains that he has to memorize three pages of dialogue to every other cast member's one because he has to speak so much faster than they do. Aw, poor baby!

When we got the two Elizabeths and two Rodneys in, I believe it was a random variation that the mist people added to their individual hallucinations (because each needed to interact with the other) AND it was filmed that way for the confusing effect (which I still really like, especially Rodney switching from/to a lab coat.

I agree about the fast pace throughout (I mentioned it about just the opening before credits). OTOH, it was a fairly simply setup, with rapid scenes changes. And we knew the Stargate characters already, so no time needed to be spent on their introduction, purpose for being in the episode, yadda-yadda.

And there's that ... uh ... iconic piccie of Rodney in his Genius tee and boxers sleeping on the couch.

And here's Lizzie, so Rodney starts to ramble about the hot date with his neighbour. O rly?

And then more cracks appear. Sorry, can't get back to Atlantis. Whuh?

And it was odd seeing the discord between Rodney and Aiden who've been pretty buddy-buddy with each other until now.

And now I can really laugh when John brings Teyla back to his bachelor pad. And, hey, stale beer in the fridge, too. And doesn't Teyla look hilarious guzzling it back?

Okay, can we have that Twilight Zone music? Elizabeth simply cannot believe what Hammond's just told her. And to think that John is in favour of such a horribly drastic policy change?!? There's something verrrrrry peculiar going on here.

And, yeah, getting visits from two DEAD guys is a huge clue. Also, mention "visit with friends" and the doorbell rings most conveniently.

Oooh, I loved the way that Elizabeth's and Rodney's clothing started switching based on POV. I remember that very well from the first time I saw the episode.

And, back at John's pad, "I was just thinking about you" and Aiden delivers the pizzas.

Crrrrrack. Rodney telling Elizabeth to go home to Simon. Oooh, a caring Rodney?!?

Oops. John's just busted the party. Imagine, reminding the guys that they're ... uh ... dead. Also, scary gun stuff.

And a confrontational back-and-forth between the two kinds of Rodneys and Elizabeths.

Whoa! When Hammond does the dissolving into light trick. I recall how flat I felt he was acting at the beginning.

Uh ... "live out the remainder of your lives." Sounds like a bad Star Trek episode, doesn't it?

And when mist-Hammond is talking about the dangers to their own existence, the music is so lyrical. ::sighs::

Rodney finally gets a clue about the all-in-his-mind "You're a pig" neighbour.

I love the ominous way Aiden said, "More will come."

Yay, yay, yay, John. "We don't leave people behind."

And it was weird seeing them all lying on the ground on the planet when they start to come to.

A lovely ghost-voice reassurance from mist-Hammond.

And a wee bit of Rodney-John snark at the end. Yes, we're back to normal, obviously.

One last observation: because mist-Hammond could read their minds, it was a confirmation of the altruism of at least TeamPlusWeir, something that seemed to get misplaced in so many other episodes. Though, if I wanted to be blasé about it all, I could think it was only because the lives lost would be in the millions rather than merely a few.

It's kind of sad that John's first tip off that the world isn't real is that a General is thanking him. Not a lot of that in the real world, I take it.

This episode is just another example of how the writers had no idea what to do with Ford. His entire experience on fake Earth is that he's being reassigned. That's it. Ugh.

This is one of my favorite episodes. Tons and tons of character information. Good stuff!

I agree with you about Ford. It's as if all they could always think of was him with his grandparents. And, then, uh ... PTB look bewildered aka "we dunno what to do with him". For a member of AR-1, at the time his character was really neglected. But, then, I guess - for them - he was just a token in a couple of categories. And shortsighted PTB are blind.
