Day 2: Favourite female character,

Commentary, picspams, icons, art, vids, and story recs are all welcome.

So, who's your favourite female character? Let's hear it for the gals of Atlantis!

This is a hard one, actually. I liked them all (well, apart from Keller, who is not a favorite), but not all the time :P I think I will have to go with Cadman :D We don't see her much, but Duet is one of my favorite episodes. Elizabeth and Teyla is a tie for second place.

Gotta be Teyla. Beautiful, smart and tough. What's not to like?

Definitely Teyla! I adored her character from the first episode :)

Sam Carter; I loved it when she was on SGA. I know TPTB didn't give her due; anymore than they did anyone but Keller. I still love her and I loved her relationship with Sheppard. She treated him as a equal, none of the other brass had at that point. Next,I'd have to say Cadman and Teldy...I know they weren't around much, but I loved them both for being so strong.

Yes, this! I came to SGA before I'd really seen anything of SG-1 and even without that background, Sam was absolutely endearing. She was awesome and unflappable and worked well with the rest of the Atlantis team.

Love for Cadman and Teldy too! I love kick-ass women like them.

I have to say Teyla. She is beautiful, intelligent, a warrior and a leader. Yes, OF COURSE I wanted to be Teyla when I first watched SGA all those years ago. And paired her up with Sheppard :-) (Nowadays, I'd rather be McKay and still paired up with Sheppard :-D)

I like Cadman and Elizabeth too, but honestly there wasn't an abundance of funny, competent female characters in SGA.

I wanted to be Elizabeth :) The writing could have been more consistent, but in season one in particular, I saw this kind and likeable woman who also intelligent and as strong as anything, able to make those hard decisions and face conflict head on.

I like Teyla for a lot of the same reasons as you do (also, the gorgeous, gorgeous scenes when the bantos rods come out!) I really wish we'd gotten to see more of her in a leadership role.

For me, it has to be Teyla as well.

I found original-Elizabeth (from SG-1) to be too-Washington ... more like a political lobbyist. I liked the concept of SGA-Elizabeth, the diplomat, except for that occasional awkward giggle.

I preferred the Sam of SG-1 rather than SGA and I found her last blaze of defiance in The Last Man to be all SG-1 rather than SGA in style.

But Teyla really was the leader of her people and I shudder to think what would have happened to the expedition if neither she nor John had been included in that meeting ('cuz Sumner vs the Athosians ... oy!). She found the right balance of toughness, compassion, diplomacy, pragmatism, graciousness ... and her eye rolls were priceless.

I don't have a picture of her, but probably my favorite on SGA was Weir. However, that being said, I really didn't love any of the female characters on SGA the way I loved Sam and Janet Frasier on SG-1. I liked Teyla, and there were times when I really enjoyed her, but I never fell in love with her. As for Elizabeth, she also had her faults, but I thought the show really suffered when TPTB fired Torri.

I'm with you on Janet. I'm a doctor myself so I've got this HUGE soft spots for fictional doctors (I can't even bring myself to dislike Keller, I think she's sweet even if she stole Rodney :-)) but Janet Frasier is something else. I want to BE her. She's so cool. And they f-ing killed her. :-( Never, ever going to forgive SG-1 writers for that.

Oh, I'm right there with you on that. She was such a great character. I loved her from the beginning, but I don't think I ever loved her more than I did in Hathor when she turned from doctor into BAMF to help take out that Goa'uld bitch! LOL

I'm still getting to know Janet, but she's got such a quiet strength and innate competence. It's really lovely to see on screen!

She's a wonderful character, and I love her to bits.

I've always loved Teyla the best. But now that I learn to know Sam more in watching SG1, I think if I re-watched SGA I'd appreciate her more. Probably not enough to tip Teyla on the favorite spot, but getting there ;)
