Things that I love about SGA today
Oct. 27th, 2010 02:27 pm1. You know those moments that never get old? Well, one of the moments that never ever fails to make me laugh is the way Joe shouts "RONON!" as Ronon and Teal'c face off over the cafeteria table in Midway. Boy, that's the voice and tone of a man with a family of young boys and dogs!
2. The fact that I'm watching Midway right now because my boy wandered in (it's half term holiday here) and put it on. SGA was our family show, the one that we all adored and watched together and I love the way we all fan the show. The only other comparable show would be Doctor Who.
So, what do you love about SGA today? Is it your family's show?

Date: 2010-10-27 01:47 pm (UTC)What an excellent thread you've started!
I love how everything comes back to SGA. :-)
I love how I'm currently answering questions for an interview and I have to explain how my love for SGA brought my love for storytelling out of stasis.
I carry around S5 with me wherever I go, because I know I'm going to watch Vegas again.
I love how the characters can inspire me to tough it out and do something I don't want to do but know I have to do.
I love how I've made friends all over the world through SGA.
I love how someone can brighten my day with an SGA story, art, icon, whatever.
I love looking up at the wall above my computer and seeing the pictures of SGA characters, as well as the artwork and gifts that have been made for me by my SGA friends.
You guys just make my day every day, you know that, right?

Date: 2010-10-27 02:13 pm (UTC)Everything that I loved today, I loved when the series first started, and more. As a science fiction fanatic, I like almost all scifi, but something about SGA caught my fancy like no other show.
Yeah, OK...Sheppard's hot, but that's not all.
I loved the premise of the lost city of Atlantis being Ancient, being a spaceship, and being on another planet.
I loved the characters, Sheppard, McKay, Ronon, Carson, Lorne and Radek...all of them.
I love puddlejumpers, and grouchy scientists, and brave heroes with crazy hair.
I was more affected by the series’ cancellation than any other show I had become attached to. However, out of that, my need not only to read fanfiction, but to begin to write again, after many years, came back. I started writing SGA fanfic and have found an outlet to feed my need. I’ve even started writing an original scifi novel.
I have traveled extensively for my job, and different SGA DVD’s go with me…for some reason, the Return I & II always seems to be in my bag.
I’ve learned to do graphics, by entering icon contest; have had loads of fun playing in
And I have met some amazing people from all around the world through LJ and fanfiction.net. People I hope will remain my friends forever.
Besides, Sheppard’s hot….

THIS. All of this. And go you for the original sci-fi novel!
Besides, Sheppard’s hot….
Made me snicker...

Date: 2010-10-27 03:10 pm (UTC)I love the whole close, caring, family feeling between the people in the city.
I love the humour and the snark, both which back up my first comment.
I love the adventure and action.
I love the feeling of disappearing into the episode as soon as it starts.
I love the beauty of the city.
Ok, I have to go for the hottness of a certain messy dark haired colonel.
I love the whole hero thing they created with Sheppard.
I loved the music of the first 2 episodes as they filmed the helicopter flying over the snowy mountains. That alone hooked me on this series at the very beginning (and then the messy dark haired afore mentionned Colonel conrtributed a lot after!).
I could go on.....but,outside the series itself but so interconnected, what I really love are the wonderful friends I've made in the fans. All of you!
'You guys just make my day every day, you know that, right?' - exactly what sgamadison said, I couldn't say it any better.
'And I have met some amazing people from all around the world through LJ and fanfiction.net. People I hope will remain my friends forever.' - and what stella pegasi said as well. Well put hon.

Date: 2010-10-27 03:24 pm (UTC)Writing has brought me so much joy. I get to use the English language (I'm Norwegian) and I've met so many wonderful people from fandom, some even in real life.
I did not watch SGA when it was on TV here, not regularly. I was a huge fan of SG1, and I liked what I'd seen of SGA. Last spring I bought the complete series on DVD and was completely blown away from the very first episode. I never tire of watching John in the chair for the first time, or hearing Rodney say think about where we are in the solar system. I too bring Rising with me everywhere, I even bought a copy to take on my travels...LOL
I was not part of the fandom when the show was canceled. I've gone back and read a lot of what Mallozzi has said and it makes my blood boil every time! I've met wonderful people and read some amazing stories. The talent expressed in writing or in art work never cease to amaze me!
The show itself is a perfect blend of great characters portrayed by incredibly talented actors. I love the humor, the snark. Atlantis. Thigh holsters. John. I love the sound of the Daedalus going through hyper space, the way John leans on anything, Rodney's eyes and that amazing ass. The team. Ronon. Teyla's eyebrow of doom. Zelenka's hair. Rodney, plain and simple. Anytime. Well, not with Keller....The way John sometimes whines "McKay!", and how he sometimes barks it. All the small and large things that make Stargate Atlantis what it is.

Date: 2010-10-27 03:26 pm (UTC)The move to Tuesdays has been disasterous for SGU...lowest rating ever last week for a SG series...under a million viewers. Oops....
I hate to be cynical about this show...I know there are a lot of SG fans that love it and I don't want them to feel cheated like SGA fans felt. But the producers and studios made a very, very bad move here. Mallozzi's recent statement that he had a life-long distain for heroes said it all...
In the words of a handsome colonel..."Crap!"
Edited because I left out a very important word...don't...in talking about SGU fans...sorry.

Date: 2010-10-27 03:35 pm (UTC)My daughter never really watched SGA with me, but my best friend would come over on Friday nights and we'd have homemade pizza and sci-fi. Good times! *g*
Also? It's drab and overcast here, and I love that my mind immediately pictures John and Rodney and their mouths. How John's is swollen and puffy after he's blown Rodney, and how Rodney's is red where he held it between his teeth. How they're draped over each other in the hastily-pitched tent, while outside the summer storm rages on...
