Considering it's The Month of Nano, I just wanted to remind everyone that this comm has a writing tag. If you'd like to discuss an SGA story you're working on, character development, season details, etc, please feel free to do so.

My NaNo is an utter failure, but even though I won't reach my goal, I am going to continue!

I'm currently writing a fic that is utterly, utterly self-indulgent (and loving it!) namely an SGA/Airwolf crossover set in a BDSM 'verse.

The only problem is, I'm supposed to be writing my SGA Secret Santa fic!

I happened to come across this. Would be most interested in reading the SGA/Airwolf crossover!

I'm working on my SGA Santa story, but it sucks so far. I am deleting everything I have so far and starting over. ***Headesk***

I need to write my SGA Santa fic. I have my "outline" done which is a list of the key points I plan to hit along with random punchlines and miscellaneous dialogue that have come to me and I want to make sure I don't forget.

I just don't know how to end my story. I've given them an Ancient device that is incredibly powerful and would be one hell of a deus ex machina for practically everything they would ever encounter. I need a reason that the machine can't be used ever again and I'm drawing a blank.

It's in the city, so it can't be destroyed by angry villagers or the Wraith. It has to be set between Tao of Rodney and Sunday, so it can't be that the device is a huge ZPM drain (since they already practically depleted the ZPM they have in McKay & Mrs. Miller, not to mention that as a deus ex machina the sacrifice would be worth the reward). It can't imprint on the original user, since Rodney would still have access to it.

My brain is always solving problems in the background and I'll have those "Eureka!" moments randomly when I'm not even thinking about it, so a month ago when I got my story concept and had this problem? I wasn't worried about it. Now? I'm freaking out a bit.

I guess I need to be under the threat of impending doom or take a bath or something. :)

Now if Rodney will just get himself out of the tub and tell me why the device is going to kill them all horribly, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise I might have to listen to John who's screaming at me to just let him blow it up. He does enjoy doing that, after all.

Your story idea sounds cool. Did you solve your deux ex machina problem in the end, out of interest??

Thanks! Considering that I didn't even really share *what* is going on, I'm honored that it sounds intriguing. Hopefully the finished product will be as interesting. :)

No, I have not solved my problem. As much as John is begging me to just let him "blow the damn thing up", I'm not sure I can realistically get them to that point? At what point do you give up on being able to fix a problem and forever sacrifice the ultimate weapon because it's making life pretty inconvenient right now? It's even harder because John is pretty incapacitated at the moment, so Rodney would have to give up on his own ability to fix it more or less independently. Roles reversed, I think John could reasonably reach that point, but alas - it's a Rodney-centric story.

Your story does sound cool. :-P Doomsday machines are always an interesting plot point, especially when the characters have to deal with the consequences.

How about making the machine have a side effect? Something like, when it's used it weakens the fabric of reality, and might have caused the universe to collapse (or some other, similar scifi reasoning). Maybe they just got lucky this time, something Rodney only realises after they've used it. Then they have to lock up or destroy the machine to prevent anyone else making the same mistake?

Considering I asked you about this thread, sorry for taking so long to contribute! Didn't mean to be rude, I've just got so much on my plate atm.

Struggling with my SGA Santa fic atm (like a fair few others it seems). I can see it, I just can't write it. I think it needs an author about 300 times better than me to do the idea justice. Tempted to delete it and start over.

How's your's coming along?

You can do it! *waves pompoms* ;) Yeah, digging cement with a straw is a perfect analogy.

Yeah, I'm planning on trying to get mine done at the weekend too. Which probably means I'll get everything done but my sga santa lol! Good luck. :)
