Rising - Before the gate
Aug. 2nd, 2014 03:32 pm
This picture makes me smile. The expressions! The body language! Bonus: John Sheppard - virgin gate traveler.
You'd think the SGA would have given him some gate practice ahead of time. Not so. The dialogue makes it clear that this is Major Sheppard's first trip through the Stargate. He's got every reason to have that expression on his face.
What's less clear is who else makes that 'virgin' list. Dr. Weir? Rodney McKay?
Is there a story out there about that? Because that would be cool.

Date: 2014-08-03 12:25 am (UTC)Although, I suppose walking into a city that lights up for you isn't exactly a bad first time. *g*

Date: 2014-08-03 04:03 pm (UTC)Sorry hon, there's absolutely no reference, by any of the characters, of Rodney ever traveling through the Stargate. Is it possible you're remembering fanon not canon?

Redemption: Part 1 (7 June 2002)
Redemption: Part 2 (14 June 2002)
Moebius: Part 1 (15 February 2005)
Moebius: Part 2 (22 February 2005)
The Pegasus Project (28 July 2006)
The Road Not Taken (23 January 2007)
I remember him being on another planet with Sam and the rest of SG-1 coming to the rescue in a pel'tac I think the ship was called. It was not a fanon thing. I can see it in my mind. I'm just going to have to watch those eps to check...such a hardship. LOL

Date: 2014-08-04 12:56 am (UTC)I hadn't thought of the Pegasus Project because it took place after they went to Atlantis but maybe there's an reference to earlier. I'll check out the transcript.
Moebius: Part 1, Moebius: Part 2, and The Road Not Taken are all alternate universes. I love their Rodneys just as much, but it's not what I'm currently looking for.

Date: 2014-08-03 01:43 am (UTC)We do know it's his first time as part of a gate team and the first time in another galaxy.

Date: 2014-08-03 02:58 am (UTC)Yess. I REALLY wish we could have seen John invite Rodney to be on his gate team :P

Date: 2014-08-03 03:06 am (UTC)I too would have loved to see that moment when John asked Rodney to be on his team.

Date: 2014-08-03 03:15 am (UTC)Yeaah. Part of me thinks John would have told Rodney to be in the gateroom, geared up, at the appropriate time. But that means John wouldn't have taken the time to pre-train Rodney, and that's just not John. John would teach Rodney to shoot, first.

Date: 2014-08-03 04:06 pm (UTC)I've gone through the transcripts of all the SG-1 episodes Rodney appeared in and can't find any reference from any of the characters that Rodney McKay ever went through the Stargate.

Date: 2014-08-03 03:58 pm (UTC)I haven't checked for Elizabeth, but she did seem very comfortable about walking through the gate with Col. Sumner.

Date: 2014-08-03 10:10 pm (UTC)Sheppard was barely cleared to fly O'Neill from McMurdo to the Antartic base so he was not even aware there was such a thing as a stargate, let alone an actual city called Atlantis (not the mythical one by Plato).
I always assumed Rodney had gate experience. Don't know about Elizabeth. Ford obviously did. Laura Cadman perhaps as well (another one of my assumptions, I might add, so fanon not canon).
Kate was a couple's therapist at some point in her lifetime so I have to say n00b at gate travelling.

Date: 2014-08-04 12:15 am (UTC)I always love when we get glimpses of the international component of the expedition.
As for Rodney's gate experience, after going through the SG-1 McKay episode transcripts, I can honestly say that there's no canon support for any previous gate travel.
In Rising Elizabeth seemed very prepared to walk through the gate so I have to wonder if she had some off-world diplomatic experiences under her belt.
Could be there's some stories here that need to be written *g*
