This picture makes me smile. The expressions! The body language! Bonus: John Sheppard - virgin gate traveler.

You'd think the SGA would have given him some gate practice ahead of time. Not so. The dialogue makes it clear that this is Major Sheppard's first trip through the Stargate. He's got every reason to have that expression on his face.

What's less clear is who else makes that 'virgin' list. Dr. Weir? Rodney McKay?

Is there a story out there about that? Because that would be cool.

Poor John... he's also the only one wearing those particular BDUs, isn't he? It's like a visual form of ostracism... I loved how Ford teased him about going through the gate, though you're right, John should have been trained before he was sent off. I guess people were busy, but still.

I remember Rodney going through the gate with Sam once in an SG-1 episode and they were rescued by the rest of SG-1.

Oh, I remember that ep because he was acting like the old arrogant Rodney and was trying to hit on Sam in that ep.

He is listed in all of these on the IMDB

48 Hours (5 December 2001)
Redemption: Part 1 (7 June 2002)
Redemption: Part 2 (14 June 2002)
Moebius: Part 1 (15 February 2005)
Moebius: Part 2 (22 February 2005)
The Pegasus Project (28 July 2006)
The Road Not Taken (23 January 2007)

I remember him being on another planet with Sam and the rest of SG-1 coming to the rescue in a pel'tac I think the ship was called. It was not a fanon thing. I can see it in my mind. I'm just going to have to watch those eps to check...such a hardship. LOL

At first I thought, "A lot of fics mention how it was Rodney's first time through the gate too," but the more I think about it, the more I doubt myself. Hm...

Still, it's something that should be fully explored :P

I did! I don't remember that episode, to be honest? Is [livejournal.com profile] timespirit sure it wasn't an AU episode? Hmmm.

Yess. I REALLY wish we could have seen John invite Rodney to be on his gate team :P

I've seen all of Rodney's appearances up to s8 (I just finished the s7 finale. And s8 of SG1 is where SGA comes in). I don't recall Rodney going through the gate? But my memory may be failing me too.

Yeaah. Part of me thinks John would have told Rodney to be in the gateroom, geared up, at the appropriate time. But that means John wouldn't have taken the time to pre-train Rodney, and that's just not John. John would teach Rodney to shoot, first.

It was perhaps an AU episode then, maybe.

In my headcanon Liz and Rodney aren't virgin gate, they gone a few times, Rodney for science with SG1 for exemple and Liz to deal diplomatic missions with our allies.

But in canon i don't remember Rodney having already gone on mission.

It must happened off screen or it's so fanon that we think of this as a really.

Belgian flag in the back! (between Stackhouse and the Colonel)

Sheppard was barely cleared to fly O'Neill from McMurdo to the Antartic base so he was not even aware there was such a thing as a stargate, let alone an actual city called Atlantis (not the mythical one by Plato).

I always assumed Rodney had gate experience. Don't know about Elizabeth. Ford obviously did. Laura Cadman perhaps as well (another one of my assumptions, I might add, so fanon not canon).

Kate was a couple's therapist at some point in her lifetime so I have to say n00b at gate travelling.
