For those that began watching from the beginning, you'll understand it was with some trepidation I learned that we were losing Ford and getting a replacement. I didn't warm up to that idea at all. *raises hand in confession* Boy, did I change my tune. I loved the addition of Ronon. I can't imagine the team without him now.

I particularly liked his introduction; taking Teyla and Sheppard captive. Not your typical team replacement, not at all. ♥

I came late to the fandom, but once I saw Season One on DVD, I fell hard.

I had a little trepidation abut Ronon at first -- until he went all stoic on me -- when Beckett cut out the tracker and he fainted. Then I fell in love with him. I'm shallow, because it might have had something to do with being shirtless, too.

I think we all loved his near-tears when he saw Sateda's ruins, and he turned out to be the perfect foil for Sheppard. He's loyal, he sticks by John's side like a burr when John returns to earth for his father's funeral. And can we talk about that scene in "Search and Rescue?" Oh, my heart!

Even if I didn't 'ship them -- and y'all know I did, I'd love their friendship. Some of my stories are up on my AO3 page ...

I liked Ford well enough, but I think adding Ronon to the team brought about interesting dynamics. In a way, Ford never got a chance to shine because he was clearly under Sheppard's command (whereas with Ronon you always get the feeling this is a completely voluntary choice on his part and the fact that he accept Sheppard's command says volumes about his respect for John--even if he is determined not to follow anyone blindly ever again). I think in many ways he balanced the team: another Pegasus native, another military man but not bound by the same military conventions, more lethal than John, not as serene as Teyla, not impressed by Rodney. ;-)

I was years behind everyone else in my access to the show, but I confess, once I met Ronon, I tended to write stories set in season 2-3.

I was the other way around. I also came into fandom very late and I'd only seen random episodes. I adored Ronn and I must confess, I never liked Ford very much....

I love John and Ronon's friendship and I absolutely love reading stories about his background. He should have been given more depth on the show, I would have loved to learn more about Sateda and his culture.

Yes! I like the idea of Ronon being a poet and historian for his people--and that to a certain extent he plays the part of the 'caveman' now because it hurts too much to acknowledge his life pre-Runner.

I was never too fond of Ford. I liked him well enough, but he was frequently mean to Rodney, and there's a scene where he's rude to Zelenka as well. It came off as too "jock being mean to the geek" for me. I know Ronon is frequently annoyed with Rodney, and there's that scene where Ronon pouts in the backseat because Zelenka's machines scared all the animals away, but Ronon was *pouty*, not angry. The Rodney-Ronon relationship always felt brotherly to me? IDK. I could always tell there was affection there. With Ford, not so much?

Anyone who knows me, however, will not be surprised that most of these are Rodney-centric.

I love the team. I love that they support each other. I love what they mean to one another, and how deep their bond is. When I think of team, I really do think of family.

I got the impression Rodney was more than a little insulting to Ford, actually, which might have set up the dynamic between them. (Ref: the prime/not-prime game where *both* Radek and Rodney mock Ford, ganging up on him for quite a bit). I'm not sure what scene you're referencing, Popkin.

So, though I did miss Ford when he was non-conned by the enzyme and took off, especially since it set up the whole problematic MIA thing that made everyone feel like crap, I really did like having a fresh start with Ronon, who had the self-confidence to poke back at Rodney.

But I will always feel the burn of never knowing quite what happened to Ford. I wish they had at least mentioned him in the final ep, because team is still team.

Mm, I do recall that scene. Rodney and Radek were playing together. I think Ford said something (about how tired he was of the game?). Radek gave him some numbers, which he apparently got wrong again, so Radek asked if he could write a paper on him. And Ford approched Radek and went, "This is payback for guys like me beating up guys like you in high school, isn't it?" Or something. I still don't remember any scenes that made me go, "Yes, I can see the affection." Maybe if Ford had stuck around longer? Huh. I wonder if there are Ford & McKay friendship fics?

Oh man, his storyline though. Just...no. It would have been better if Ford had come back, even if just to return to Earth for treatment or something. Or if we found out what happens to him at all. They even brought Bates back!

The scene is in media res and Ford is tired of playing with them because he's been wrong 10 times already, and Rodney mocks him because it's statistically impossible to be wrong so many times (Ford could flip a coin and be right 1/2 the time or some such) and then Rodney even tries to pull in another scientist to make fun of Ford as well. It's very...hmm. Brainy guys making fun of the dumb guy. Ford was trying to get out of the game and finally snaps that line about high school. And then Radek finally realizes they've gone too far. But it's obvious that Rodney doesn't.

But, eh. Rodney consistently in canon makes fun of non-smart people, and Ford is the one person who doesn't take it well (he brings it up again in Lost Boys), whereas most other characters just roll their eyes or banter back at him (John). So yeah, I feel for him. Because frankly, no one is as smart as Rodney. :) I sure ain't. But I'd be more like John and stuff a pin in his conceit every so often, subtle-like, and see if he noticed. Because he is so adorable when he stutters and blusters. <3

Was it Rodney who mocks him or was it Radek? Hmmm. I've checked the transcripts on gateworld, and it seems that Rodney does explain that statistically Ford should be getting some right. Zelenka is an equal participant in it, though. Or that's how it reads to me? Definitely "brainy guys gang up on the dumb guy", though.

But I'd be more like John and stuff a pin in his conceit every so often, subtle-like, and see if he noticed. Because he is so adorable when he stutters and blusters. <3

Yes, I did say he and Radek, both, but wow, the transcript is even worse than I thought. :| I think you're being a little soft on Rodney, babe. Rodney and Radek are being big meanies here, there's no denying it.

Anyway, I don't recall Ford ever being mean to Rodney before he was, you know, hopped up on the enzyme? I don't recall Ford being mean to anyone! He was just such a sweetheart.

I am convinced John likes to rile him up, to see his face flush and his eyes get big.

Oh, me too. I love writing that into my fic, and then having John sit back and just admire the pink cheeks he has wrought. :D He probably figures Rodney doesn't even notice. But I think Rodney likes playing their game. <3

Rodney, bless him, was insulting to everybody. Well, unless you weren't considered important enough to get even that much attention from him.

There's been a few behind the scenes discussions (on dvd comentaries)- Did they write his character too irritating and obnoxious? Shouldn't Siberia have mellowed him more?

He doesn't pretend to be team player, not even remotely, yet in Atlantis he becomes one.

And what about John Sheppard? Why ask Rodney of all people to be on his team? Weren't there kinder,gentler, more team oriented scientists he could have asked?

Teyla and Ronon also have their own reasons to be on John's team. If those reasons shift (as in Broken Ties) there's no rules or regulations to keep them there.

It's a wonder they were all able to work together at all. Until you factor in John Sheppard. John's the glue that makes this team work and eventually become family.

Damn, I love our team.

"Team"! It was my reason for watching the show. All the adventure, aliens, scifi are just plot devices where the characters play. It was the team connection that kept me coming back.

Watched from the beginning and felt bad when Ford was replaced but it was obvious that Ronon was a more interesting character and the team dynamics became more colorful. It was a replacement that I embraced (unlike one a few seasons later that was a truly bad, bad decision).
