Labor Day

The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and spirit de corps of the trade and labor organizations*

I like this dedicated vision and I am having great fun imagining ...



Trade on Atlantis. Well, we know it doesn't always go smoothly. *g*

What are your favorite trading stories?

Has our intrepid team come through at the last minute to save the day? Maybe it's Lorne who barters the best trade leaving even Teyla impressed.

Trading with the natives is an integral part of the SGA universe. Is there meta on this? If not, there needs to be!

My favorite is still when John met Teyla.....(not the romantic version) But you get to see John for John, even Sumner noticed John had natural way with people.

hee, John did stumble a little on his first meet up with Halling - on another planet in the dark - and completely endeared himself to me.

And then, when they met Teyla, you could read it clearly on her face: "If these guys are traders I'll eat my bantos rods without salt and pepper." She clearly recognized them as soldiers and I doubt that Sumner would have gotten very far with her if it hadn't been for John's clumsy tries to break the ice. Teyla recognized what he was trying to do and appreciated that he tried - also instantly noticing that he hadn't much practice with it and concluding that, if he tried that hard even if it apparently wasn't his people's modus operanti, there might be something important to know behind the whole thing. Also, from her viewpoint it was the wisest decision to go along with the guy who tried so hard to play nice - seeing how he and his comrades were armed to the teeth and with weapons that were most likely far more effective than anything her own people had at hand.

The first fic that came to mind was Red Flowers by Temaris, team + light McShep (from what I remember anyway)

Sadly, right now I have no fic to rec that matches the topic but having just come over from daily-flan, looking at pictures from "Condemned" in which John wears that leather-collar around his neck and then being immediately confronted with the topic of "trade" here I have the sudden craving to read stories in which John (and team) is either traded on a slave-market or first season stories in which Elizabeth is desperate enough to think about "trading" (read: pimping out) John's services for a ZPM because she got an offer for it. ;-)

Actually, I think so far I've only come across just one of this kind - it's so obvious a plot that it's funny that I haven't come acrosse more of those.

Come to think of that: Wouldn't that make a funny story - Elizabeth pondering (loudly) to trade John's services to the xyz-ians which asked for something harmless and John totally getting freaked out by the idea, totally misunderstanding what kind of services is required from him. There are thousands of funny stories out there but I've never found one like this.
