Ohhh, this episode. <3

I actually just did a rewatch of this yesterday with a bunch of people. It never fails to get me. John. convinced. a. man. to. kill. himself. To save Rodney. I NEVER expected them to go there with his character, but I love that they did.

And the look on his face when he's talking to Rodney:

KILLS ME.

Exactly! How manipulative he was to get what he wanted, because in no shape or form could he allow Rodney to give up his life.

haha, I love gifs. <3 I need to make more for Miller's Crossing. I think that's the only one I've done so far.

>>And then the way he has it all planned with the pictures of Kaleb and Madison in his pocket. Everything was worded so carefully at every point to get Wallace to respond.<<

Yes, this! It's fascinating to watch and makes me even more curious about John's professional background. It's scary - not only that he's capable of it but that he's *good* at it.

I also love the last scene when Rodney talkt to him and John insists of only having presented the situation. Shows that he's not exactly comfortable with what he did and the only way he might be able to live with his own actions and keep his self-respect might be that he convinces himself that there's a small but important line between "presenting the situation", no matter how suggestive, with the final choice still being Wallace's, and actually physically forcing the guy to do it.

Watch John's face when he talks to Rodney while sitting on his bed. He's standing *this* close to an internal abyss.

You know, I love Rodney for actually finally getting that and not drilling deeper in this conversation, just letting things be as they are in the end and instead simply asking John if he wants to accompany him to the mess.

I'm pretty sure John doesn't have much of an appetite right now but he *clutches* on Rodney's suggestion to regain his balance, get back to normalcy.

Yes, I really, really love that episode. Thanks for bringing it up. :-)

It really told us so much about him, and I think that is why I love season four as much as I do; the amount of time they devoted to exploring John's character, and the slow reveal in moment's like this of how far he is willing to go to protect the people around him.

I agree...S4 was my favorite because of that same reason. I was surprise at the turn of events in this episode but second to Sheppard and McKay's scene was the scene with Sheppard and Wallace was simply amazing. OMG, can JF convey more emotion with his eyes than any actor I have ever seen. Whew....

It's why I get so peeved at people saying Joe isn't a ~good actor. I feel like we're watching two completely different shows. Forgive me for using gifs to say everything, but I really don't need to speak when Joe says it all for me with his expressions:

One of my other favorite scenes...that little half grin makes me completely weak in the knees...oh.............

People say Joe isn't a good actor because subtle is much harder to appreciate. Having the ability to stay low key (which is very much in-character for John) made him the perfect foil to Hewlett's McKay. :-)

I love all these gifs too, because I can just sit back, grin and enjoy. :-)

THIS! His eyes...gah, unspoken universes in those expressions.

And he's always in the background reacting to something, even when the focus of the scene is not on him. Which is why it made parts of S5 very hard to watch...

My favorite scene from the entire series. I mean I loved the pier scene in The Shrine but for me...no way it compares to the scene you have posted. Best episode for Sheppard and for JF (yeah, I loved Vegas, too.)

You know, imagine - just for a moment - the McKay character would have been written and caste female. And now imagine the whole series exactly as it was - including the McKay/Sheppard friendship - with a female McKay.

And then imagine *this* scene taking place between Sheppard and female McKay - playing out exactly as it is, not changing a thing.

I'm convinced not even the average audience, meaning not only the non-slashers but the non-fans, the casual watchers, would doubt for a moment that the female McKay is Sheppard's secret love of his life.

But as it is, it even works for everybody! John loves Rodney, no doubt about that - be it in the slashy, romantic way or be it in a brotherly, friendship way. I truly love this scene. :-)

So, I don't get your squee. I mean is it because JOHN TALKS SOMEONE INTO FEEDING HIMSELF TO A WRAITH JUST TO SAVE RODNEY!!!!

Ahem. What's so squee-worthy about that?

;-P

This episode was one of my Rodney and John favorites, but it was only after the series ended that I started to like Jeannie at all. It wasn't until I read how David teases his sister on his twitter notes, did I realize that they as siblings could act like they did out of perverted affection and not character jackassedry.

Does this make no sense? Oh well. I was watching McKay and Mrs. Miller last night.

And here's a weird bit of trivia. The real name (or stage name) of the actor who plays Kaleb is Brendan Gall. The same name of the scientist who was drained almost to death in The Defiant One. Madison's name is really Madison.

I only noticed because I was watching on the computer so I could pause and read the credits.

I never liked Jeannie until The Shrine when she overrode Keller's stupidity and believed Ronon and Teyla.

Yes, that was a good Jeannie moment. I will give her a heart. &hearts

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that they borrowed the name. The SyFy and Stargate community seem to have a few actors that circulate through different shows and episodes.

I liked Kalab amd om Miller's Crossing, I thougtht he behaved very much the way he should...he didn't give Rodney any relief from being responsible for Jeannie's kidnapping. I thought they relationship seeme quite real.

And, yeah, it is sort of perverted that we love that Sheppard "presented" the facts to Wallace and Wallace volunteered to kill himself. I suppose it the underlying thing...Sheppard would do anything for Rodney and for his team. And we love anything Sheppard does...go figure.

The actor is an old friend of Martin Gero, and they used his name for the character in Season 1. I think Martin says this in one of the commentaries, but it's possible I heard it at a con.

So, then Martin's buddy, actor Brendan Gall came to audition for something else I think. They liked him for Jeannie's husband and he got the part.

I hadn't paid attention to see that Madison is really Madison. Neat!

I love this ep for exactly that conversation. It's one of the very few times we get to see Rodney call Sheppard John, too. Doesn't matter if it's viewed with the het or slash goggles on, it's GREAT anyway.

(And to comment on if JFlan is a good actor or not - I really don't care, I love him in SGA. That's quite enough ;-))
