Letters from Pegasus Week
Nov. 14th, 2012 11:36 amTeyla and the Wraith...

From what we already know of the Athosians, their main strategy for dealing with a Wraith attack means run and scatter. Teyla can't do that here.

She has to stand perfectly still and silent, hoping the Wraith won't investigate what his senses are telling him: there's food nearby. If she moves, if she gives in to her instinct to kill the Wraith, she'll not only jeopardize her own life, but also Sheppard's, Orin's, and Orin's family's lives as well. And she'll reveal the presence of the jumper, and thus Atlantis, on its scouting mission.

There's so much at stake here but Teyla keeps it together, keeps her cool, and waits, hoping the Wraith will just walk away. She looks so small and frightened, but look at her right hand: while her sidearm is still in its holster, she's released the trigger strap just in case.

This isn't the way Teyla learned to fight the Wraith as a child -- run; this isn't the way she has fought them as an adult -- attack head-on; this she learned from the Lanteans -- patience. What an incredible risk to take -- and what an incredible act of trust in these complete strangers.
My apologies for going MIA. November handed me lemons; I've been trying to make lemon chicken.

Date: 2012-11-15 03:39 pm (UTC)Always felt they should have told us more about the Athosian culture, and how they coped with living under the Wraith threat. Glad you think about these things and share your mind with us ^_^
(And had to get a Teyla userpic for this, can't believe I didn't have one in use already...)
