Date: 2012-06-01 01:49 pm (UTC)I'll join the chorus of people wishing TPTB had made more of Halling's character too, as part of exploring the Athosian's society & culture in general. I think a lot of fanfic features Halling as a sort of connecting-point between Teyla & the rest of the Athosians, since she spends virtually all her time with the Lanteans in canon. Canon is practically devoid of details about the Athosians so that gives writers the freedom to write Halling as many types of person with many sorts of motivation (so much better than he would've faced at the hands of TPTB!).

That may be what propelled our fandom to such heights and still keeps it going. There's not a lot of room to maneuver in very well written canon; SGA, sadly, has a great premise and lots of holes to fill.
