Halling, played by Chris Heyerdahl, only appeared in six episodes, but he made a quite an impression on fandom. Of course, Heyerdahl later returned as Todd the Wraith but we'll get to him in season three.

Chris is just a class act all around. He's such a versatile actor and even when he plays the worst of the worst (Alastair) you can't help being drawn to him. I wish we'd seem more of Halling. And Todd... I will reserve my gushing for later.

I sort of figured Halling as Teyla's second and would have liked to have seen a little of Athosian life after Teyla left. Is there some good Halling fanfic?

Have you seen him in "Hell on Wheels"? In that, they call him the Swede and he always protests that he's Norwegian. It's a wonderfully sinister character, which he does so well.

He's a fantastic actor and I wish we'd seen more of him as Halling. But he's such a busy actor, you can find his work a lot of places.

I don't know of any fanfic that focuses on Halling in particular, but I've read a lot of stories that have him as a strong secondary character. It may be the type of fanfic I like or the writers I follow but it seems he pops up quite a bit.

And now for my obligatory shallow comment. My gods he is a pretty fellow! If you're into hair & deep-set eyes & mature-looking craggy faces, that is. (I can't help it, I'm 1/4 Swedish plus some Anglo-Saxon—it's genetic. ;-)

I'll join the chorus of people wishing TPTB had made more of Halling's character too, as part of exploring the Athosian's society & culture in general. I think a lot of fanfic features Halling as a sort of connecting-point between Teyla & the rest of the Athosians, since she spends virtually all her time with the Lanteans in canon. Canon is practically devoid of details about the Athosians so that gives writers the freedom to write Halling as many types of person with many sorts of motivation (so much better than he would've faced at the hands of TPTB!).

Totally agree! Very handsome! And I like Chris so much better without the Wraith makeup. ;)

And yes, the one good thing about the writers' benign neglect in canon is that fans and fanon get to fill in the blanks. That may be what propelled our fandom to such heights and still keeps it going. There's not a lot of room to maneuver in very well written canon; SGA, sadly, has a great premise and lots of holes to fill.
