How about a mini love fest for all of those things we love about Stargate Atlantis and never got to squee enough about?

Just leave a comment about what you love, what you miss, what you wish they'd given us more of.

I'll start.

Zelenka's Still. Sure it's fanon but damn, I wanted to see it.

Ancient toaster. Surely they made toast? Bagels? Seriously, without toast you might as well ascend. I know Rodney would agree. :)

How did laptops and coffee makers work? Surely there had to be some sort of conversion factor needed--they couldn't have simply 'plugged' them in!

Zelenka's still--that's a good one! I think he should have kept a loft of some sort of homing bird in the city too--no! Little tiny flying lizards! That John would eye with the same expression he gave the Asgard.

More of Lorne's artwork.

The Library on Sateda.

John's black shirt with the little zipper at the collar.

Rodney's S1 blue short sleeved shirts.

Closure on Ford.

Closure on Sora!! (Is she still in the dungeon somewhere?)

The Repli-Weir stories they never gave us.

More exploration/city based stories.

An AU version of Janet Frasier assigned as the CMO.

More about the day-to-day running of the city.

I miss the snappy dialog, arm porn, thigh holster porn. I miss Rodney trying (and often succeeding) at being a bad-ass and Smart!John. I miss the S1 isolation that allowed John and Rodney come into their own as misfits who have found their place.

I miss how having a fresh weekly episode gave us thousands of points from which to launch stories, simply by giving us inspiration.

Ah, I'm sure the comments here will remind me of even more things that I love and miss!

Of course I miss John and Rodney most of all, but I also really miss everyone before TPTB started destroying the show beginning with Sunday. I miss real Carson and Elizabeth. And I miss that lovely, lovely bad guy, Kolya.

I miss John's badass geekery. I miss Rodney's snarky vulnerability. I miss The Team.
I miss the beautiful city. The theme music. And lots more.
I miss the weekly episodes something fierce.

This made me snicker very loudly. :-)

Ah, yes. I miss S1 for many reasons...

KOLYA!

Oh yes, he was a good bad guy to hate. They could have done so much more with the other worlds and cultures in Pegasus.

I agree with you about the turn the show took after Sunday. For years, I set all my fanfiction in season 2 through mid 3...

Oh, my yes, Peter's ass! (Of course, they HAD to kill him off, so Rodney would retain the title of Best Ass in Atlantis...)

Right. I'm going back to my story now. Not coming back here to check answers. Nope. Writing. John says so.

I know, deep in my heart, that Caldwell always left Hershey's Kisses on Elizabeth's desk for her when she wasn't there. He never said anything. She never said anything.

Sometimes, when they were talking, or playing chess, or going over routine business, she would take one out, carefully unwrap it, and with her eyes on his, slowly place it on her tongue, and close her lips around it. While it melted against the roof of her mouth, she'd look at him through her lashes. When she pushed it against her cheek, she'd watch as he'd forget to speak mid-sentence, his lips moist and slightly parted. When she swallowed, he'd swallow too, out of reflex, his eyes on her throat.

She never spent those nights alone.

No one ever touched those kisses, not even Rodney McKay.

I miss seeing Elizabeth at her desk, working.

I miss the true ruffling of feathers that was the essence of John and Rodney's relationship.

I want to know what John Sheppard meant in S5E15 'Remnants' when, after David Parrish discovered the plant, Sheppard said, "Lorne warned me about this." Because, UNF!! It's like Parrish/Lorne were canon!

I miss Jeannie Miller and all her snarkieness.

I have an odd curiosity to get to know the support staff; those people who worked in the mess, and worked in maintenance and such. And to see a "team" dinner through their eyes. To have them watch Lorne & Parrish share a quiet moment, not knowing they were being watched.

I miss the city.

I do not miss the horrible wig they made for Ronon in S5, but I wanted an episode where they had a side story of Ronon getting his hair cut.

But most of all, I miss the snark that was John & Rodney.

Oh, there's too much I could list so I'm going to restrict myself to only a few examples. :-)

I love that Rodney frequently forgets how dangerous his opponent is if he just gets angry enough with him or her.

I love that we actually saw the team being there for each other, like in "Broken Ties", when they all took turns sitting on Ronon's bed when he went through withdrawal.

I love that we saw Ronon trying to teach Rodney how to sword-fight (Vengeance).

I love that Teyla can wipe the floor with Ronon even when she's blindfolded ("Reunion") - and that Teyla using sparring as a method of "educating"/payback/"punishment" is actually canon. We get to see that as early as "Echoes" when she's in the gym with Ronon after he fell asleep during their meditation session.

I love that John loves Rodney actually so much (in whatever sense one wants to see it) that he practically sells his soul to save him in "Miller's Crossing" - and his "McKay's alive?" in "Search and Rescue".

I would have liked to know more about the cop-friend John is talking about to Teyla in "Quarantine".

I would have liked to see some really uncommon, unusual societies in Pegasus with social norms very different from those common on Earth - and how the Lanteans would have handled this.

I would have liked a real "we're Jumper-crashed on a planet with hostile environment and have to survive"-episode.

And just a little question, since I just saw John on his knees again in front of a Wraith queen (this time in "Submersion") - did any of the queens who had John on his knees actually survive in the long run?

[livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine writes gen and it's mostly from Lorne's POV, but she covers a lot of the everyday, working Atlantis, behind the scenes stuff. Lots of well developed OCs you really get to care about -- I love Lorne's team! -- and her knowledge of how the military works (and sometimes doesn't) is priceless. You can find her catalog here. I highly recommend her vision of Atlantis. It goes a long way to filling in the blanks the PTB left out.
