Yesterday, I watched rising with the commentary. Always a combination of interesting and frustrating in unequal measure.
Interesting this time because it's one of the rare times Joe Flanigan is speaking, along with Martin Wood.
Much of the commentary is about lighting and camera work but interspersed with it are comments about the set. I truly enjoyed the comments about the 'new' Stargate, the fannish speculation and curiosity about it, and how that ceased when the Atlantis Stargate was finally revealed. (Oh, early, new show, I could hug you all over again.)
Frustrating - because it's a commentary and they talk over the ongoing dialogue that I wanted to hear.
If you haven't heard the commentary to Rising, it's well worth the effort just to hear Joe and Martin talk about getting a handle on John Sheppard's character. That, and to hear Joe keep calling Hewlett 'David McKay'. Which Martin never corrects, btw.
Clearly, Rodney had already made a deep impression on the cast and crew.
Later today I'll watch the episode without the commentary. I can already tell you, 'David McKay' looks awesome in orange.
