I would hope the Ancients put a failsafe on the plantary gates so that they would only dial a spacegate via a puddlejumper DHD or something similar.
If not, all that running Ronon did was even more dangerous. And with the Ancients, you can't be too sure. (I would imagine the Atlantis gate could dial anywhere they wanted since they were the ones that built the gate system. Hmm, I wonder if there is an episode that addresses that. Then again I suppose the DHD could be tampered with... oh my.
I did see a half dozen episodes of SGU. I wanted to like it soooo bad. I missed my Stargate. I really liked the premise and 'seeding' the gates was a fascinating bit of Ancient history.
