Wouldn't have to ask me twice!

I feel about Atlantis the same way I felt about the Enterprise (Jean Luc Picard's Enterprise); I wanted to be there, live and work there. And I spent many a time fantasizing about just that.

That was really the fantasy about the Enterprise, wasn't it? That you'd be good enough to be a member of the crew. So many shows since ST paint the future as a much darker, uglier place. I've been watching the BBC series on Science Fiction and the director of the Wrath of Khan said something to the effect that half the people in NASA today grew up watching ST. And when Nichelle Nichols was approached about recruiting POC and women for the astronaut program, she asked how important was what they were doing? She was told that they were making the Star Trek vision of the future--and what a team would consist of--real.

Shows like BSG or SGU don't make me want to be a part of them. Given that dark and post-apocalyptic or dystopian seems to be the norm, now, I wonder if I will ever find another show to fall in love with like that again.

::pores through manifest and breathes a huge sigh of relief::

Yup, my names are there, all five of them (plus nickname, lol). Hey, Rodney's not the only one with extra names (and an occasional "Ingram" thrown into fanfic).

Even though the TPTB ended up betraying us - the fans - and tarnishing the legacy of what Atlantis could and should have been, at least they were smart enough to hire people who created a magical city. The design elements were brilliant (esp. the Frank Lloyd Wrightian windows).

I am with you, when do we leave! Sometimes I look up in the sky just to make sure there's not a streak of light going by that could be Atlantis coming to save us from aliens!

Well, someone has to take up the duty of wolf whistling every time Rodney McKay walks into a room. I mean, really.

Yeah, that's me. Queen of the mops! Fighting dirt, blood stains and Wraith ambidextrously with a wiping cloth and a broom. *g*

Do you remember that story about the adventures of the guy who runs Atlantis' dry cleaner's? I had fits of giggles and laugh when Sheppard required his help to save the mission by getting the stains off of the fur of the natives' sacred beast (kind of a goat, IIRC).

*The* hero of Atlantis saved by the expert competence of Lt. Laundry, so to speak. Yup, that's life, *real* life. *ggg*

Imagine Atlantis falling simply because the military commander did not have a clean uniform to wear and thus came too late to the crucial battle. I'm convinced history is full of incidents like that which - of course - never made it into the history books. ;-)

There was always a dearth of 'explore Atlantis' stories. Not sure why that was--lots of material there!
