Ugh. I didn't want to watch this one even once, but I guess I want to keep a perfect record, so....

I'm intrigued that Carson's slightly-altered retrovirus works on human hybrids, just not on Wraith. Well, that was convenient!

It was endearing to learn that Rodney visits Carson's stasis pod and talks to him/it on a regular basis. Uh-oh. Jennifer thinks that's adorable and gets a certain look on her face. ["Danger, Will Robinson!"]

I had to laugh at the overly pompous music just before Richard Woolsey was beamed down to the city. Oh, poor Rodney. John made you stand up to greet the man.

Ack. I'm getting tired of the laziness of TPTB with their story lines, not to mention piggybacking on what happened in the other timeline from The Last Man. Just because Jennifer contracted the Hoffan sickness and died should not have automatically led to her being the only person to come down with what happened to her in this episode. Also, was her mind already being affected, so that she hid her condition from Marie? It also makes one wonder why - after there have been Wraith discovered on the city - that nobody tried to refine the sensors/filters to detect the presence of ANY biological Wraith substance.

Major duh time when we learn that Richard was responsible for the new mahogany conference table, to have a bit of home. ::rolls eyes:: Everyone from the original expedition got to bring ONE small personal item and he brings a monstrosity (as well as other things revealed in S5). I know WHY a new table was brought it: because the filming crew had a tough time getting around the weird contraption with the bayonets!

Hmmm. So now there's discussion as to whether the new timeline will follow along the same course as the old one, if Richard's in charge – as he was before. But it's lovely to hear Rodney's certainty that things will be okay, all because John is there. Awww, Rodney.

Oh, John. So the “weirdest thing” about the other timeline is what happened between Rodney and Jennifer? That seems rather unsporting of you. It also makes me wonder whether anyone would have interrogated John about events in the other timeline and whether John would have had the right to refuse to answer, or to reply selectively.

After Richard arrives, we see the conference doors closing. Okay, we know there'll be a joke in a later episode, but did we really need to waste the time for a setup?

Well, Richard certainly has the bureaucratic finality of his other self. He won't commit the resources to look for Michael. He's also pretty straightforward about keeping the former hybrids sequestered until he's satisfied they're no longer a threat.

And then he focuses on Carson's condition and gives Jennifer an ultimatum. So, Carson's revived and luckily seems to be okay. But Rodney has to break the bad news to him – that he's being recalled to Earth immediately. They're interrupted by Teyla who can't rouse Jennifer from outside of her quarters. Um ...lazy writing again because it was ALSO Teyla who was outside Kate Heightmeyer's quarters the morning she committed suicide. Gee, she sure has bad luck in breakfast companions of the female kind (not lol).

Note that Teyla has a computer tablet with her. We see her more adept using Earth tech. But – yuck – there's Rodney with the issue of Jennifer "sleeping or naked or something" that he's not willing to see. Wasn't he equally reluctant at Kate's door – which so does not jive with his boorish sexism at times (OMG, the last being in S2 on SG:U). PTB, why can't you stick to uniform character traits? ::sighs::

Whoa – Teyla's spidey senses are really tingling and her take-charge attitude is right there, ordering Carson to step away from Jennifer's bed.

Let's get John involved and, after Jennifer's removed to an isolation room, Richard is dragged into the picture. The bureaucrat in him reminds John that Carson's not on active duty and that he was – until recently – Michael's prisoner. Only thing is, who else is there?

Cue up the horror movie trope, of what usually happens when you try to cut into a foreign substance. At least it didn't spit out acid, but it did make Jennifer crash. So, obviously, they can't cut it away.

Hee – Richard is having to adapt his own rule book when he allows Carson to stay. Of course, it's John who'd point that out to him.

Ugh. The mass of vines is now huge. At least we learn that Jennifer was infected on the planet where the rescue took place. Though, once again, it's sloppy writing to have her – in the rescue party – be affected and not the men who were actually trapped in the wreckage. Female victim syndrome, writers???

Now that they know there are others harbouring the same pathogen, it's time to restrict them to living quarters. Did anyone else have a flashback of when John was turning into a bug, upon seeing the guard outside his door?

We also catch a glimpse of Richard's potential ruthlessness as he's considering what to do with Jennifer.

If things weren't bad enough, the vines are taking over Atlantis, spreading wherever there is energy. So what do the people in charge do? They evacuate the tower where Jennifer is and shut off all lights, leaving only faint daylight. Can we say creepy and inhumane 'cuz what's going to happen when it gets dark? I thought about this and wondered why they couldn't have left her with a couple of low-level battery lights, but I guess that wouldn't be scary enough. [Bastards!]

There's another nod to Teyla's competence as she visits Rodney to tell him what's happening (though, really, why was HE not kept informed). He'd like to know, too, as he blames Richard for taking the advice of the “B” Team. Poor Radek.

We're back to the odd disconnect as to why Rodney is not the one talking to Richard, but using Teyla as his go-between. Though there's a little snobbery from Richard and Radek about Teyla's scientific proficiency, I'd say she's doing a really terrific job, considering she's not a scientist, but can convey the concepts to others.

I'm also bothered that they think that Rodney's been compromised, especially as he's not shown any of the early physical manifestations. This is a sloppy projection of his nebulous who-knows-when-in-the-future incapacitation. So, Rodney can't use a radio with them OR videocam, but Teyla is able to visit with him. Is the Wraith in her providing immunity?

OTOH, I found it interesting to see that Teyla was the military leader, issuing orders to the team sent out to investigate the power conduits.

Yuck. Radek finds a huge muck of vines covering the power conduit. He moves too close and gets snagged. Luckily, Teyla rescues Radek by firing her P90. But I'd like to know how the weapons fire killed only the vines but didn't damage the power conduit itself?

Um ... can I please roll my eyes over the idea that the biological aspects of the ship add a multiple personality to the host's brain? Does that even make any sense?

Anyway, we're now at the heroic (or stupid) John Sheppard grand gesture of trying an untested drug. First it kills him (only temporarily) and then it cures him. At the same time, all power is cut on Atlantis, save for a few emergency generators. And we learn that Evan and a few others are now showing symptoms. So ... no pressure, then.

Ronon offers to deliver the drug to where Jennifer is isolated, as the thinking is the vines won't attack him as he's already infected. So next we have him being ignored until he gets too far in and the way is blocked. So why not have him try to blast his way out? Because the vines will become very VERY angry and string him up.

[I am so losing interest in writing about this episode.] Then John decides to open a channel to Jennifer and gets acquainted with the nameless entity with a purpose. [Thanks, but I'll take FRAN any day over it.] After that, he takes off for the 'jumper bay along with a syringe. Oops, he's going on an unauthorized trip. Crashing right into the tower wall closest to Jennifer.

When he gets to her, he injects her. Initially the vines become stronger, tightening around Ronon's neck and stabbing John in the stomach. Oh, great! Didn't he just have surgery ... like last episode? How unrealistic.

I missed this while watching, but the transcript says he aims his pistol at her head. I'm confused. It's just as well that she loses unconsciousness and then the vines die.

So ... that was all supposed to be Richard's Welcome to Pegasus initiation. He's not thrilled, as he had to deviate from the rules book.

And I'm definitely not thrilled because this was a stupid episode with so many damaging repercussions to personnel and the city. I also find something sadistic how TPTB decided they'd start putting the newbie (blonde, young and let's not forget FEMALE) character into danger. I think they misjudged how the fans would react. They thought we'd be sympathetic while I for one thought their efforts were pathetic.

::shudders:: Okay, I'm relieved that's over. Now I just hope I don't end up with nightmares.
